Hi

Just noticed i have a split in the offside boot.  i understand you can buy
one that is spit and gluesd together saving removal of the hub and
driveshaft.

Has anyone used these, are they any good and if so where can i get one.

thanks in advance

You can buy them at most car shops, BUT, they tend to only be used by back
street mechanics that need to get a car thru an mot as quick and as cheaply
as possible. Save yourself in the long run, learn to do it yourself and do
it properly with a proper boot!

I think you need them on Sierras or some other rear wheel drive car,
something to do with the halfshafts not being easy to split.  But they
are hassle and not for minis!

I changed a boot on my mini this weekend, not a massive job took a
couple of hours.  Would recomend the stainless steel ties you can get,
the work like cable ties only they come with a special tool and you
can get them really tight!

I have fitted these to a couple of cars where it was difficult to access
and a quick job required. They have not lasted very long.

These are very difficult to glue together and seal. there is too much
grease to deal with. Its better to remove the shaft and replace it with
a full rubber boot.

Hi

Thanks for all replies, i fitted a 'proper' boot last night, wasnt too bad only took a couple of hours.

All ready for the Moment Of Truth now!
