That's considered Trolling in this newsgroup. There is a newsgroup
reserved for your BMW impostors, please go there. There is no
legitimate reason for insulting the members of this newsgroup or their
beloved real Minis. Any more of this and you WILL be reported to your ISP.

Have a nice day.

Point taken, apologies...my ISP (Bigpond Australia) does not
list alt.mini.new, and the BMW group does not include minis....

Why are you all so against the new mini anyway, they are a damn fine car,
get good reviews
from all major reviewers.

BMW could have done a lot worse, at least they have made a good car that
does not
ruin the mini name...

Just one point to answer your question and then no-more should be said on
the issue as it is an inflammatory topic in this NG.

The BMW is a totally different car.  This is an enthusiasts news group
dedicated to the upkeep of a classic car.  The BMW shares no components and
bears no resemblance to said classic car.  It is like trying to ask
questions about world war 2 spitfires in here and expecting to have a
conversation about it!!  We don't know and most of us don't care.

The questions about the BMW are usually "what dealer options can I get"
whereas we are more interested in "what size spanner should I use"

Hope this helps.

This German abortion is an insult to the good name and heritage of the REAL
Mini, and can never replace it in the hearts of the millions of Mini lovers
the world over.
The REAL Mini broke new ground in car manufacture and design and showed the
world the way to go. Just bear in mind that the REAL Mini was the first mass
production car with front wheel drive, and now every manufacturer follows
this lead. In it's heyday the REAL Mini thrashed the world's best in
national and international competition. The BMW thing will never reach the
heights of fame enjoyed by the REAL Mini.

It is a total travesty that BMW would try and replace the humble metro!!  I
have one and love it.  Down with the BMW Metro :D

Yes, but Rover soon dropped the name MINI from the Metro when they realised
they had made a boo-boo

It's called alt.autos.new.mini

If you ask them nicely, I expect they will add it for you.

If you really want to know:

1. BMW acted like Nazi bullies when they introduced the new car. They
sued or threatened to sue the businesses that had supported our cars
for 40 years, demanding that they not use the word "Mini" in their
business in any way and also in some cases demanding as much as twelve
thousand quid for the previous use of the name, *when BMW didn't own
it yet!*.

2. There are NO parts and there is NO service information common to
both cars, so why lump them together in the same discussion group?

3. Because I was the original creator of this newsgroup, many years
ago, and I say so.      :)

> BMW could have done a lot worse, at least they have made a good car that
> does not ruin the mini name...

Possibly, but their behavior (BMW) attempted to ruin our sport. They
are arrogant bastards. The BMW MINI is spectacularly absent from the
one main place where the real Mini won honour after honour: automotive
competition. The BMW has been conspicuously absent from International
Rallies and Sports Car Races. The main reason for this is that the car
is not competitive: it's too heavy, is underpowered and doesn't handle
well.

I think they are cute, myself, and wouldn't mind having one for the
highway or puttering around town, but they just don't measure up to
the classics when it comes to performance, styling or cornering.

of course they don't. It's alt.autos.new-mini. If they don't have it,
you should ask them to get it into their newsfeed.

there real mini's to w.nkers.
