I think I would cut it in half and weld a section in, that way you don't
need to do anything with the indicators.

Mine has been shortened but I didn't do it. I would assume that the
opposite would work. It had a section cut out and then the two ends were
welded back together.
Make sure it is done properly (but if you are into engineering things for
kit cars, you probably already know that).

Hi,
If you are going to lengthen the column, avoid butt welding the two ends.
Much better and safer to sleeve the two parts together and then weld the
sleeve to the two parts. This will also ensure that the column remains
straight.
