Hi
I was quite horrified when i removed the rubber strip from the sill to
repaint a small patch of rust only to find it all the way along ang one
small bit rusted through.
I realised a couple of years ago this could be a problem so gave it a coat
of waxoyl before fitting it. This was obviously was not a success, does
anyone have any more successful methods. Is it best just to remove it when
cleaning the car and leather it off.
cheers

When I bought my mini se7en a few years ago bran new, i took the rubber
strip off and hamerited the flange, in such away that when the strip goes on
you dont see the color change. I take it off every year and clean it, also
jet wash with the strip on and lots of craps comes out. If there is some
rust or the hamerite is flaking i touch it back up.

Been there, done that.
I removed the strips this summer to clean up the metal underneath. Its a Mpi
cooper from 2000, but it still rusts like any other mini. Removed the rust
to bare metal, than painted the metal with a anti-rust epoxy. Finished with
color and a clear lacquer and placed new strips.
Inspect underneath these strips every year to avoid big rust problems.
