Is it possible to put a 12G940 head on an 850cc engine, and if so, how
difficult or easy would it be?  i.e. what would i need to do?  Cheers

Yes you can, but theres alot involved, and unless your doing it for racing
not worth the effort and time. You have to pocket the block to acheive valve
clearance. For road use this is overkill. There are several 998 head units
that will fit. A good starter would be a Cooper 998 head, which is the same
as an MG1100 head. I'd reccomend a visit to the libary and having a flick
through David Vizards book on how to modify a Mini. I wouldn't bother buying
it as its primarily technical and aimed at the highly compedent amatuer or
proffesional person. Also ask around your local club, or visit a Mini

Too much head for an 850, in my opinion. I used a 998 head on my 850
racer in the 60s, but even then, had to seriously notch the sides of
the bores in the block to clear the valves.
