Reaming the bushings is a machine shop job, but everything else is
simple. The reason the bushings need to be replaced and reamed to fit
the driving flanges is that sloppy bushings allow the flange shaft to
bias to one side when power is applied and that causes the seal to
leak and wear out quickly.
I pop loose the upper and lower balljoints and withdraw the hub and
carrier along with the axle/CV joint assembly, pulling it out of the
output shafts. Then I remove the nuts (#24) on the driving flanges and
pull them out. Obviously, I drain the oil before doing any of this.
Then I remove the end covers.
The parts you will need to obtain before starting would be the paper
gaskets that seal the end covers to the case, the cover bushings and
the cover seals.
I have cut and copied the relevant illustrations and posted them here:

Rocky,
is it possible that I have a different transmission then what you show in
the diagram? My mini is a 1989 Mayfair model with a 998cc engine. It
appears to have the driveshafts with "Potjoints". Is the one on the diagram
the earlier version perhaps
again many thanks

Yes, your setup is different. I have never owned a Mini with those CVs.
However, I tend to think the flange shafts and end cover seals and
bushes should be similar, so the advice is probably valid even though
the illustration is not.

Thanks for your time. Pity about the "going nowhere" thread "neon motors"

I think the best way to deal with that is to either killfile or ignore
and definitely NOT reply.
Made in Coventry, as it were.

flangees and end cover seals are similar; removing the joints and the
like is different;
