Hi, Has anyone had any experience in fitting 5.5x12 alloys to a late model
mini 1986 onwards?

The wheels have 165/60/R12's on them, will they fowl the arches? I had a
Cooper a few years ago but cant remember if they were 5 or 5.5? I know they
were a deeper dish and it was close on the arches...

Any ideas

Cheers,

Jono

Obviously depends on the offset of the wheels rather than just the width.
I have had 4.5 inch wheels with rubbing problems and 6 inch wheels with
loadsa room.

Measure how much clearance there is round existing wheel/tyre combination.
Closest is probably between rear tyre inner sidewall and shocker,
but also consider how much room you have around the front on full lock too.

Then put a straight edge across inside of tyre, and measure from there to
the
inside face of the wheel hub.
At the same time, measure depth from rim, rather than tyre, to hub.

Measure, or get measured, the same distances on the wheels you are
considering buying.

I have got them now, but the drivers side front fouls the front arch
slightly, im not sure if the suspension has dropped a bit, im gonna put
wider arches on anyway, but think the knuckles may have worn? any ideas?

Done some more homework, currently the suspension is resting on the bump
stop, looks as though the wheel change has been synchronised with a donut
failure! I have never heard this happening before?

Never heard of it either Jono,
but I have experienced the ball & socket on the trumpet ends,
wearing out and causing a similar fault though,

Even with the ball and socket failing the suspension would never collapse
that much, it has to be the rubber donut......it has all the energy in it
and expansion to keep the car up and in the correct position, with it
failing and the suspension on bump stops, it must be the part that has
failed, i think and hope...
