Hi all, Last weekend i bought a Mini Studio 2 1000cc(91). I noticed that the
ampmeter in the dash never went above zero except for the first 15 seconds
when i start the car up. I didnt think anything of it to be honest because i
have never had a car with an ampmeter before so i thought it might be normal
behavour.
Lastnight though, i was driving home and after about 20 miles the poor
little car started to feel really bumpy like someone kept touching the
brakes and as soon as i took my foot off the gas she just died and wouldnt
start again.
The car sounded like it had a flat battery, she was struggling to turn over
and every time she did all the lights on the dials faded to nothing.
I have had the alternator checked and there is a stedy 13.2v coming out of
it.
Does anybody here have any ideas as to what this could possibly be? i have
heard that if you have a stage one kit fitted, which i have, you should have
a 1300cc alternator fitted for some reason, is this true?
Any help on this would be great and i thankyou in advance.
Alan.

Hi,

You dont need a 1300cc spec alternator to run a stage one, my car ran a
dynamo.
It sounds like your battery has died, try charging it and see if that helps,
if it happens again soon then replace it.

As has already been mentioned, it sounds like your battery is dead.

If your altenator output is healthy, I would guess that either the battery
has a dud cell or 2 in it and needs replacing or you may possibly have a
problem with your earthing strap.

I had a 998cc mini mayfair a fair few years ago which kept losing battery
power and for some reason that I don't completely understand, the problem
was chased down to poor condition/contact through the engine earth strap.

Hope this helps

Hi,
Worth checking the fan belt is the correct tension. If it slips, the output
from the alternator will not be able to keep up with demand.
