Hi all,
Due to my engine  misfiring recently, I have noticed the top stabilizer has
started to disintegrate,
the metal plate was contaminated with rust and has now fallen to bits,
this part fits under the clutch master cylinder and looks like it bolts on,
is this correct, and is there a modified replacement on the market,

Thanks
Fitzy

Hi,
The top stabiliser plate is replaceable, but you have to remove the clutch
cylinder to do it. Usually it is the bottom plate that breaks off the
bulkhead, so while you are doing the job it is well worth checking this out.
As far as I know, there is no modified replacement for this part.

" there is no modified replacement for this part."

but you could easily make (a similar) one (bottom plate) of thicker
material
(it's only a plate with a 90 degree bend and some holes)

Thanks Theo,
I will considering this option, as it looks quite easy to manufacture,

YES there is a replacement for the engine stabilizer!!!

It's called the "ultimate engine steady" and can be bought from any good
mini parts supplier for around ?20 to ?30 quid.

It replaces the top engine steady coz they tend to break!

Easy to fit too.

It's the first thing I always put onto any mini I but coz they solve no end
of problems with the engine "rocking"

But if you have good bushes and no corrosion, for most applications the
standard steady is perfectly adequate!

Having said that, I have an ultimate engine steady on mine lol

Thanks People,
I have seen these ultimate engine steadies advertised,
any recommendations as to what manufacturer, or are they all the same,

They all seem pretty much of a muchness.  You can get deflex bushes for them
but once you tighten them up it shouldn't make much of a difference.

Steve at DSN  has my order,
a new bracket, this is to keep it original,  and a new ultimate engine
steady,  just to be on the safe side, and a couple of hoses , just to keep
as spares,

thanks to all

I have fitted the original stabilizer bracket, and also fitted the
"Ultimate" engine steady,,,,,,,,, what a difference the "Ultimate" bracket
makes, , the mini seams quieter, smoother, less squeaks and rattles ,or am I
just imagining things ,  I should have fitted one of these things ages ago,,

Thanks again people
