Flat tyre? Yes or No???

I've got a 2002 MINI Cooper and every time I drive on the M25 my tyre
pressure warning light (yellow one, approx 2'oclock on the dial) sounds and
flashes continuously.

BMW have informed me that it is a warning light to indicate a flat tyre or a
change in tyre pressure.

This same light then goes off once I pull over and restart the engine. I've
had the tyres checked out and they're fine. How irritating is that??

Is anyone else familiar with this one?

Regards,
Jim

Think its only the newer Minis that have this problem, the more electronics
you put in a car, the more problems you will have, mines one of the older
ones with the full size alloy wheel in the boot & the 2 petrol tanks,

Steve.

No substitute for the genuine article,

Hi "k"
even though your in the wrong group,
my advice is to take the car back to the dealer,
as many times as it takes,,,
keep a note of how many visits you make,,
get the names of the service people who deal with your problem,
make a point of writing to the service manager about your problem,
inform the manager that your next step is to contact BMW at Bracknell, if
this problem is not rectified,

check the back page of your service book for BMW customer service address
and numbers,,,,, or ask the service manager for the address   ;-)

You would not get this advice from alt.autos.bmw, so sell the car,,, buy a
classic and join us................  ;-)

hi
my advise would be to piss in the petrol tank and jump up and down on the
bonnet in the nude going wibble wibble for about a week that will fix it.

I think the tyre pressure sensor works by looking for a difference in wheel
speeds. The theory is that a flat tyre is running an effectively smaller
diameter so will rotate faster. The effect is more noticeable at higher
speeds hence the light comes on at motorway speed. I don't think it matters
which motorway it is.
Are your tyres the same across the car? If you are running a worn one on one
side and a new one on the other side, that could cause it even though they
are both legal.
However, as Fitzy says, moan at BMW. It's their problem and they should fix
it.
Don't worry about the comments of the others, they're only jealous of your
car.
That should stir up some comments so I'm off now but before anyone asks, yes
I do own an original Mini. It's old, very quick and I've had it a long time.

look in the manual mines got run flat as your mentioned, and under th
ehandbrake theres a button you have to depress while turning the ignition
but read the manual for details on setting the tyre pressure
