Speedo Cable Swag tool

Does anyone know who or where, has or makes the tool to swag an inner
speedometer cable (to make the ends square).  Can't find anything in
Google and some time a go there was a listing in a tool catalogue and I
can't remember where. Or anyone who has an unused tool or jig.

Need to make short bits of drive cable - no outer required.

Thanks

Hi,
It should be fairly easy to make a tool for this. Use two small pieces of
steel and file a "V" slot in each to the right size. Then just clamp the
cable between them in the vice.

I did think about this and making it. Looked at making one from a tap
wrench which has like a double V.  There are a couple of different size
inner cables also.

BTW its to make a flex drive for an outboard motor on a model boat -
these usually break a strand each time there used for about 1-2hrs.
Buying new bits is expensive, compared to buying a length of cable, and
then they are not of consistent quality.

Hi All,
When cutting the cable to the required length, what about cutting it with a
oxy acetylene torch, this melting effect would seal the ends from fraying
and before it cools off, it could be hammered into shape, before squaring it
off on a grind stone,
I have seen this done some years ago with speedo cables,
worth a try

Your in strife Frtzy, for a start the NG police will have you :)  - note
I've middle posted. Now the formalities are over ......

The two different types of cable I have, one has been cut with oxy and
the other looks ground off. So it appears that either will work as they
don't unwind when used unless the motor is started backwards.

The cable is about 120mm long and runs at 90 degree's it usually breaks
a strand near the end when it stretches the outer windings.

Thinking of having a tool made at an engineering place to suit the cable
size - this maybe the answer
