My handbrake isn't holding on hills and I can't adjust my handbrake cable
any
further. It was new at last MoT and the adjusting nut is right up against
the nut on the cable itself. Any idea's? It's a K-reg (93) city e.

Adjust the rear brakes.

And Elvis was sitting next to Graham W in the spaceship, which I thought
was kinda weird, but then they turned to me and said:

But don't forget to back off the cable adjuster before you adjust the
brakes...

Then afterwards grease the (probably seized) quadrants and cable guides.

Make sure that the lever bracket is still welded to the floor.

Hi.
First thing, release the handbrake cable adjustment right off. Then go to
the rear brakes and adjust them so that the drums are just free to rotate.
Now adjust the cable so that the lever comes up about 3 or 4 notches before
the brakes come on. This should get the handbrake holding again.
If all this does not improve matters, then you will have to strip down the
rear brakes to examine the condition of the shoes and the expander levers.
If you have to remove the shoes, make sure they are refitted the right way
round. If you do not have a workshop manual, email me and I will send you a
scan of the correct fitting for the shoes.

Thanks to all who replied. Will do it this weekend. Anybody from round the
Sheffield area on here. Need to know a decent mini garage that gives value
for money. The one I use is shutting down.
