help! judder at 60mph and on braking

Ok here we go: 1991 mayfair 75.000 miles, newly fitted and balanced
tyres, new balljoints on both sides, new bearings on both sides
(front), new tie rod & lower arm bushes, just done the tracking,
recently fitted new disc brakes and pads, good ride height. All this
to try and solve a problem. The steering wheel judders at 60+ mph and
on braking (if doing 50+ mph. It does not judder when braking at slow
speeds). It also pulls to the left since the tracking was done
professionally. The juddering had stopped for a while after I'd fitted
new brake disks, but started again after a couple of thousand miles
(even though it's not as bad as it used to be). I'm beaten, I don't
know what to do (maybe new discs again?). Any help welcome

I would go for one of, or a combination of 3 things, 1 warped disks, often a
problem with cheap non genuine disks, 2 possible warped hub, 3 seized piston
in the brake calliper, ( presuming the tracking is correct )

Steve.

Yep

the steering vibration at 60 is usually a straight out of balance problem.

Secondly the braking vibration is discs warp / pads etc

Thirdly the calipers need an overhaul as one side is not allowing even
distribution of braking forces.

these are IMO even though coming from the same place are separate problems.

wheel balance problem

I'd get the front wheels balanced again, sounds like that's the problem.
Cheapest option to try first.

Good luck

Sorry guys but sounds like bollocks to me, New disks even non genuine are
unlikely to be warped, and with all teh work he says has been done i would
say the problem is the drive flange.
I have seen this twice before and both times it was wear in the drive
flange. undetectable by eye but at 75,000 i'd put money on it.

And Elvis was sitting next to fragged in the spaceship, which I thought
was kinda weird, but then they turned to me and said:

I once saw a bent driveshaft - that gave similar problems.

Don't know exactly how it got bent, but the owner had just recently had
the car into Kw*k Fit...

You could be right about the drive flang Keith, but I fitted a set of none
genuine discs to my Peugeot diesel and my mini in the same week,
both sets of discs where warped and juddered after only a few miles,
the following weekend, genuine discs where fitted to both cars and this
cured the problem for me,

I dont know how good you are and i dont want to insult you but the chances
of both sets being warped is about zero, are you sure its not something you
are doing ?
