Clubman Estate (1979) Bonnet Release Mechanism

Can anyone give me a clue how the above goes together / works please?

I stripped the car about 4 years ago (I know...) and boxed everything.
I even took pictures of most things - but not the underside of the slam
panel.

I rebuilt the front end - and on fitting the bonnet release mech I
can't figure how it goes together.

I don't remember an internal bonnet release by cable - but there may
have been - and if there was its not where I put it :-)

There doesn't appear to be (or have been) a lever suitable for poking
through where the grill will go.

The assembly which is the body of the release mechanism hangs down
anout 1 1/4" in front and behind so it isn't obvious how the mechanism
can be shifted to release the bonnet

The nice people at Mini Sport thought that late Clubby Estates had
internal cables but weren't sure

Does anyone have any ideas or better still pictures please?

Thanks in anticipation.

Cheers

Pedro

There is a top portion which has the guide (for the bonet
spring/plunger) and there is alower half which goes under the panel. the
lever sticks out through the front. no cable release.

that's how I remember it from mine too ..
should look preety much the same as on 'normal' Mini's

items 25 and 26.
26 is the guide bit, goes on top of the slam panel, 2 bolts (7/16th on
my mini) go through the panel and into the bottom bit, spring hooks on
one side in the lever other side in the slam panel.
(I just replaced mine for a cable release item off a Metro)

Thanks for the advice - and the links. The line drawing is very clear,
and I posted to the other link and got a further link to some pics of
quite a few CEs showing the lever jutting out from the grill.

The guy who had my CE before me must have changed to mechanism for a
cable type...? but there was no cable....

I'll look out for a standard bonnet release mech.

Anyone any ideas where I might pick one up? Are they available new?

Thanks again

(what did people do before Homer Simpson decided to put the Winternet
on computers???)
