hi people, i have just bought a 1981 BL mini pick up, and it needs a core plug in it. minispares do the two types, so;
I do not know if this is the original engine (think it is)
can you tell me when A+ started and what the visual differences are between them.
thanks,
RS

The A+ has prominent strengthening ribs on the block casting. But the
easiest way to tell is that the distributor mounting is different, with
the A+ engine having a rather crude clamp plate holding the distributor
down to the block with a single 5/16" UNF set-screw.

As far as I can remember the A+ blocks have 2 core plugs on the side of the block underneath the engine steady bar, the A series have 1 larger one.

The dipstick and distributor as well as extra ribs on the engine case are quick visual cues.
For example this is my A+ engine http://austinmini.ositech.net/Moke/1300%20Transplant/image/DSC00271.jpg
