Hi all,

Has anyone managed to swap the front to back brake pipe without removing the
rear subframe? Can it be done with enough manipulation and space under the
car?

Hi Erik!

It is possible (make sure you plusgas everything a week before
though!), although I always recommend kunifer brake pipes as they are
quite resilient to corrosion and you can buy a coil of it and fittings
for very little money from your local brake specialist.

The flanging tool is the only part you might not be able to borrow, but
they aren't expensive and you can always lend them out to friends etc!

If you have already got hold of the whole steel pipe pre-flanged then
have fun! although it is always a good idea to renew those rear
subframe bushes while you are under the car, and reapply the waxoyl!

I have a roll of the stuff, and a flanging tool, but I also bought one of
the complete kits a while ago - the front to rear pipe is the only one I've
not used so far...

The subframe bushes were done a couple of years ago, replaced with poly
ones. I think they're still OK, they haven't got overly squished, so I think
I'll leave them for now. The waxoyl though is a must-do.

It's been about 8 years but I did exactly this. We may have removed
all of the mounting bolts for the subframe to get a little more room
to work. We didn't remove the subframe.

The brake pipe was steel. I had bent it to shape a couple of years
before and didn't use it. It was copied directly from an original
front to back brake pipe. When a friend of mine needed it I gave it to
him and helped install it.

Cheers,

Kelley

I did mine a few weeks ago, it's possible providing you make your own
pipe up and fit the connections after manouvering the pipe between the
backpanel and subframe, prepare for arm ache while using the flaring
tool though.

That's the part I had forgotten over the years. Spot on. Sore arm...
