shop in northamptonshire. I'm pleased to say that its all going well eccept
for one thing, I can't think of a name to call it. I've thought up many
different, wiered and wonderfull names but nothing seems to be quite what
I'm looking for. Any suggestions would be great. I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!

Well as long as you don't use the word "Mini" you should be alright,
otherwise BMW will jump up and down in their Nazi boots and threaten to
invade Poland and start WW3!

BritishMiniWarehouse - all one word, and when you answer the phone
you can say "BMW, how can i help you?" ;) unless someone's done
that already, in which case I'm done.

Is this a strange reference to a pod racer engine from Star Wars?

Your acronym needs work if you have to scrape the barrel this much to get
words that fit your word.  You should try something like 'tard'.  If you
repeat the word you get somewhere close.

What's wrong with 'The Mini Shop' - other than the fact that you will
probably get sued by BMW? Seriously, it's a real problem using Mini in
the name. I'd go for it, though.

Or if you can't use the word "Mini" then call it "That famous little car
that changed the face of motoring, was a roaring success in motorsport,
completely classless, first truly modern car and now has it's name used to
promote a big ugly German lacklustre hatchback Supplies" instead?

Good idea Taff, but may piss people off when writing a cheque?

Also, Nathan mentions a 'new mini shop...'

I wonder if he means a New MINI shop or a new Mini shop?

The latter I hope
Nathan Crawley - 12 Mar 2006 22:49 GMT
Don't worry guys I am talking about a new "Mini Shop" however I do intend on
selling stuff for those big, bouncy balls of tin from BMW as well but only
to make extra money. We all know that there's only supposed to be one sort
of mini on the road and I want to do all I can to keep it there as long as
possible.

You are going to be busy, trying to fix all of those old pieces of scrap
metal. Good to see that you will have supplies for the improved,
German engineered model. Though it might take some time. I have had mine
for four years without a problem.

I didn't know he was opening a shop to fix old pieces of scrap metal?  Mind
you the BINI certainly falls into that category, because after all these
years and no doubt millions spent on developing the BINI (what a waste!) it
still can't go around bends anywhere near as fast as an original so I don't
see the BINI as an improved model at all!

Oh and I've owned my 1990 Mini Cooper for 12 years without a problem too!

If people like our resident twit madmax own minis new or old they will rust,
real minis need a little care & attention, as for the new Bini, who gives a
f**K, look at this one, 31 years old & no rust at all, I wonder how many of
today's  BMW Binis will still look like new in 2037, me thinks not many,
madmax says I live in the past, I am taking the past into the future........

Steve.

good luck with the mini shop.

Well why not?  1960's/70's fashions are all the go these days and for me,
well I don't think there's anything quite as cute as seeing a girl in a
Mini-Skirt and Kinky Boots!  Groovy!

I google and found this

Brigette Bardot, mini skirt, kinky boots but the Mini is missing.

Yes that does very look hot! And Brigette did inspire other 1960's/1970's
beauties like actress Katy Manning of Doctor Who fame and of course
singer/actress Marianne Faithful (yes she was a stunner in the 60's and
there's archive footage of her being filmed and photographed while she's
waiting by her then boyfried Mick Jagger's black Mini Cooper S, which is
parked outside a court, because he's inside facing drugs charges.  Anyway
he's acquitted and he leaves court and they both jump in the Mini and shoot
off down the road.

Oh yes and there's a Mini connection with Katy Manning's character Jo Grant
in Doctor Who too, well sadly you never saw it in the show, but according to
one of the novels from her time, she did indeed drive a lovely white Mini!

Anyway their currently repeating all the Jon Pertwee era of Doctor Who on
UKTV Gold on Saturday and Sunday mornings (starts at about 7am I think?) so
set your video's or DVD recorders and enjoy seeing Jo in all her groovy,
cute, adorable and damned sexy glory!

All the stars drove Minis in those days. Just rewatched 'A shot in the
dark'  - the second 'Pink Panther' movie - which features Peter
Sellers' own Radford Mini.

Several Mini references in the Beatles Anthology. They all had them.

Back to Minis in advertising, anyone spotted the clothes ad (M and S)
with Twiggy and a flower-power Mini?

Yes but the lovely Twiggy has been associated with Mini's since the 1960's,
well she advertised them for years, she even had a song in the charts in the
late 1970's that was used in a BL Mini advert and even though Lulu (another
Mini advertiser/fan) drove the last Mini off the Longbridge production line,
Twiggy popped in too and was on the news stating how she always loved Mini's
and it's something as a nation we should be proud of and how she planned on
buying one of the last and keeping it forever.

Anyway I can just imagine Twiggy insisting a real Mini get featured in that
M&S ad, oh bless!

Oh and you can see some truly mind blowing and rare photographs of The
Beatles and their Mini's here:-  http://www.minispace.co.uk/
But pop stars and celebrities have always taken to the Mini not just in the
1960's, the rock band Ocean Colour Scene all had Mini's in one of their
video's, Betty Boo (Alison Clarkson, remember her?) had a Mini and so did No
el Gallagher of Oasis's girlfriend too!  Anyway that's just off the top of
my head.

Well The Monkees was a blatant rip-off of The Beatles for starters, but
i'm not complaining as I quite like The Monkees too and their 1968
movie Head is rather good as it happens, okay it's a bit odd, but the
music is excellent!  And okay I didn't mean to knock Americans as such,
I just think Madmax was a bit rude to knock The Beatles that's all.

Can we leave out the knee-jerk anti-Americanism please, Taffy. Some of
our greatest Mini enthusiasts are US citizens. One of them founded
this group. Just because our resident troll is an American doesn't
mean we have to tar them all with the same brush. |t's not even

Music changed the world, My a.s! Music is music. Maybe it was the LSD
you were on, that changed "your" world. By the way, I have a great
browser set up perfectly. It's just a crappy web site.
The fricking beatles, more popular than God. I think not! Spoiled draft
dodgers. American music rocks, british music, yuk.
Taffy - 20 Mar 2006 19:43 GMT
Well as you didn't live in the UK in the 1960's, then obviously you
wouldn't know that yes the music by bands like The Beatles and fashion
and culture really changed Britain and many other countries around the
world too.  As for the UK, at the start of the 1960's, we were still
really getting over the effects of WW2 and it was a very grey and to
some extents poor and damaged country.  Then when the 60's kicked in
with The Beatles, 1960's optimism, Mini car and Mini Skirt,
psychedelia, suddently the future looked good and everyone thought
they'd be holidaying on the moon quite soon.  Anyway the 1970's
happened and we got industrial action and power cuts and punk rock and
it all went tit shaped, but we still had the Mini, that's the main
thing!

Oh and Britain never entered the pointless Vietnam war anyway, so why
call The Beatles draft dodgers exactly?  And yes they were indeed
bigger than God or Jesus or whatever back then!  Anyway I think Elvis
is greatly overated myself and apart from The Doors, The Byrds, Crosby
Stills & Nash and a few other bands from the 1960's, we really have the
best music here in Britain.  Still not convinced, well how about the
mighty Pink Floyd?  Their 1973 album Dark Side Of The Moon was in the
US charts for years!

So stick that in your Pipe and smoke it!
Madmax - 20 Mar 2006 20:25 GMT

Bigger than God , only in their eyes. People in the U.S. burned their
records , when Lennon announced the beatles as being bigger than God.
As far as the other music that you are talking about, sort of a long
time ago, don't you think. Old has beens, like your outdated car.
Taffy - 20 Mar 2006 20:36 GMT
Well like they said in The Beatles spoof called "The Ruttles" which
really was Monty Pythons take on The Beatles, Americans bought
Ruttles/Beatles records to burn them, so record sales went through the
roof!  But no The Beatles were huge all around the world, so yes they
were as big if not bigger than God back then i'd say and they were
damned talented too, just look at their back catalogue and number one
hits!

As for the other music, well I was just refering to the American stuff
I like, which yes tends to be from the 1960's too as I don't
particularly like anything else that came from your country in later
years, but as your a mere child you'd probably know nothing about bands
like The Doors or Jefferson Airplane?

Oh and my car isn't outdated and probably never will be as the majority
of cars on the road today are based on the Mini, but none are packaged
quite so well and few are as much fun or exciting to drive!
Taffy - 20 Mar 2006 20:42 GMT
Oh yes so you can poke fun at the silly sodding Muslims who get all
upset over a couple of cartoons (well did we get upset after Monty
Pythons Life Of Brain?  God no, we just fell about laughing!) but you
consider burning Beatles records correct for their claim on being

If people want to burn records, which they did, more power to them. Non
violent disposal of unwanted junk. And yes, when someone is so full of
sh.t as John Lennon, I would never buy any product made by him.
Taffy - 21 Mar 2006 17:51 GMT

But that's just it, it a was violent action as the bloody stupid backward
moronic Klu Klux Klan incited it and it's because of their stupid threats
that The Beatles quit touring too.

Well maybe you wouldn't buy anything by John Lennon, but who cares as
millions upon millions of Beatles and John Lennon records have sold over the
years, so I'm sure it's of no loss to the world, but like I said apart from
music and bands from the 1960's (most of who were influenced by The Beatles
anyway) I really don't like much music that has come out of the USA since.
Well most of it sounds like Spinal Tap stuff and is pretty crap!

And lastly John Lennon was definitely not full of sh.t, for starters he was
against the pointless Vietnam war and it's a great loss that he was murdered
back in 1980.  But then when your bigger than God, you really shouldn't walk
about in public, especially after dark in New York City!

The KKK threating the beatles...hmmm, OK. The reason they quite touring
was because the band fell apart. Which it had to do, because the members
were so full of themselves they could no longer work together.
Taffy - 21 Mar 2006 18:59 GMT
No the real other reason they quite touring is so they could spend more
time in the studio creating successful albums like Sgt. Peppers,
Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Yellow Submarine, Let It Be and
Abbey Road etc!  Hardly a band falling apart really!

And they weren't full of themselves (well Paul McCartney is a bit now)
at all, they'd just grown tired of being a group (they'd been together
for years after all) and their partners were getting in the way too as
John was more interested in spending time with Yoko Ono than with the
rest of the band.

Anyway they were a 1960's phenomenon and they knew when to call it a
day, but they continue to inspire other acts even today.
David Betts - 22 Mar 2006 08:44 GMT
>The KKK threating the beatles...hmmm, OK. The reason they quite touring
>was because the band fell apart. Which it had to do, because the members
>were so full of themselves they could no longer work together.

This is really getting rather a long way off topic from the fact that
the Beatles were all Mini enthusiasts, but still.... the Beatles split
up long after they had stopped touring. The main reason they stopped
touring was musical.... because of the hysteria they couldn't hear
themselves play, were rushed from venue to venue without time to
practice, and were simply not playing well. They hated the fact that
nobody was listening and nobody cared, particularly as they had been
one of the best live bands in the world before ever making records.
(If you doubt that, you can get a sense of just how good they were
live in Hambury and Liverpool from the early BBC live radio
recordings.) That's why they went into the studio and produced the
greatest studio albums ever. The break up came years later,
paradoxically at a time when they were again considering playing live.

Also, John Lennon never said the Beatles were bigger than God, he said
they were bigger than Jesus. This was an off-the-cuff remark and
referred to their enormous popularity at the time, not their spiritual
importance. Unfortunately, this was taken out of context by the type
of small-minded fundamentalists who infect all the world's religions
and hyped into an 'issue'. Despite the well-publicised, staged
demonstations at the time, it had zero long-term effect on the
Beatles' poopularity or the sales of their records. All the above is
very well documented in the serious biographies. There really is no
excuse for getting  it wrong.
Taffy - 22 Mar 2006 15:49 GMT

Well I think Madmax has now given up because as usual he can't take being
proven wrong.  Anyway John Lennon was nice enough to publicly apologize for
the comment he made (which as you said was an off-the-cuff remark, which as
ever the media used to create a storm), oh and after that comment it's said
that Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones said that "if The Beatles are bigger
than Jesus, then we're bigger than the Anti-Christ!", anyway nobody seemed
bothered about that!  And anyway nobody would be bothered if a rock band
claimed they were bigger than Jesus or God or whoever these days and even if
they did cause offence and upset, most rockers today would refuse to
apologize and just tell everyone where to go!

A mere child huh? I listened to Jim Morrison and Grace Slick, back in
the day. I just grew with the music and now listen to better stuff.
Obviously you are not a God fearing man, may you rot in hell. Perhaps in
your little mind, the beatles were more powerful and popular than God.
But again, you would be wrong.
Taffy - 21 Mar 2006 17:39 GMT
No i'm not a particularly God fearing man, because if there was a God,
things like 911 for instance surely wouldn't have happened?  And
religion and beliefs have been responsible for some of the worst wars,
terrorist attacks and events in history!

So when you get a group of talented young men together like The Beatles
who spread rather a lot of peace and love around the world, without the
need for any form of religious cults or violence, then I consider them
bigger and better than God or any religious nonsense I think?
Madmax - 21 Mar 2006 18:01 GMT

Actually they were involved, very heavily, in a religious cult. As far
as spreading peace and love, don't forget about them also spreading drug
use to the youth of the world.

I haven't got any problems mate, I can assure you i'm a very happy well
rounded person as it happens!

What religious cult was that, oh the Guru Yogi bloke?  Well that was just
Hippy stuff and nonsense and they soon sussed him out to be a fraud and as
for spreading drugs, well it wasn't until they toured the USA and met people
like Bob Dylan that even got into drugs in the first place (when it came to
taking drugs, most bands did and still do indulge and The Beatles certainly
didn't spread drug use to the youth of the world, well it didn't make me
take to drugs for starters!).  Still LSD did help with the Sgt Peppers album
(Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?), but then many creative people had/have
their hang ups I guess?

Anyway your a fine one to talk as you admit to smoking pot or whatever in
your pipe!  So don't go passing judgement when your certainly not perfect
yourself mate!

Sounds like you are trying to say that you are pleasantly plump.

So basically what you are saying is that the beatles were weak minded.
Following fraud religion and because other celebrities were using drugs,
they should also. Sounds about right.
Anyway I'm really tired of you, so you may have the last word. Goodbye.
Taffy - 21 Mar 2006 18:53 GMT
No they weren't weak minded, they were just following the Hippie dream
like
most people were back then, but once they sussed that Guru was a fraud,
they
appeared on TV to say that they'd made a big mistake, oh and John
Lennon
even apologized for his comment on being bigger than God too!  So they
experimented with drugs, big deal, but they weren't casualties of the
substance like say poor Jimi Hendrix, so really when stars like him die
from
drugs, surely this can be seen as a warning to stay away from the stuff
now?

So your tired of me eh?  Or are you really tired of the fact that you
know
very little and don't like being proven wrong?  Anyway goodbye too!

Nostalgia? I think you guys need to check into a convalescent home and
buy a walker.

Well how old are you Madmax, or Mark or whatever your name is as it appears
you are really a mere child.  As for me well I was born in the 1960's, but I
can appreciate things of merit and quality regardless of their age and if
you call that nostalgia, then so be it!

I didn't call it nostalgia, Fitzy did. I was just saying that you are a
"has been", living in the past. And if you think of me as a child, I
would like to thank you for the compliment.

No I live very much for today, but I do appreciate certain good things like
say The Beatles from the past, but although I own all their albums on CD, I
rarely listen them now.  And calling you a child wasn't meant as a
compliment, no it really meant you have little experience of the world and
things of historical significance.

"Our Mini Shop" (meaning Small) or
"I own a Mini" ( a Statement) or
"My other car is a Mini"  (again a statement)

They have places like "Mini Marts"  don't see BMW having a say in that
venture.

hiphenated.??
