Good Morning,

I am currently in the process of buying a used 2000 A4 Quarttro for
around $12950.00 with roughly 64,000 miles. Was wondering if anyone had
any advice/oppions on this car and or mechanic to look at in the SF Bay
area.

Thanks,

Todd

Good choice of car, well better than a BMW bini, look for a full service
history, listen for strange clunks & noise while steering slowly, at this
mileage make sure its had a cam belt, expect to start replacing front
suspension components, this can be costly, check the body very carefully for
accident damage, listen for clunks when changing gear & engaging disengaging
the clutch, the build quality of all a4s is not as good as the Audi 80,
pitty really,

Steve.

Or alternatively buy a Mini, no not one of those nasty BMW Hatchback things,
but a real Mini.  Go on you'll be glad you did I can assure you.  :O)

I wouldn't buy one of those old mini pieces of sh.t. Get a new one. The
BMW model out performs that outdated english pile of dog sh.t.

define performance:
power: well yes, the new mini has more power, but it is 45 years newer,
handling: you'll be hard pushed to beat a classic on tens in your cooper S
on 17"
space: classic -enough for 4 people, new - enough for 4 people - even though
it is 2 foot bigger in each direction...
economy: 40mpg (UK) easily for a mildly hot classic - 25mpg if you're lucky
from the BMW cooper S
i stress the first point - your car is a modern day shopping trolley
come back in forty five years an we will compare your car to modern day
equvalents - oh - wait - no one will remember the bmw by then...

why are you on this NG madmax. if you do not like the classic mini, goto

Actually my 2003 BMW mini gets 43 mpg on the highway. And its not hard
pushed at all in out cornering the old mini's. As far as popularity, BMW
mini's have already sold more total cars, worldwide, than the obsolete
model. And as long as this newsgroup is titled alt.autos.mini, I will
remain. For that is precisely the name of one of my cars.
RS - 29 Mar 2006 18:59 GMT
> Actually my 2003 BMW mini gets 43 mpg on the highway.
If it is a Cooper S (as my comparison states) you are not driving it as it
should be,
If we are talking about motorway (highway) runs then a standard 1000/1275
mayfair could do 50+.

>And its not hard pushed at all in out cornering the old mini's.
have you ANY experience of driving the classic?

>As far as popularity, BMW mini's have already sold more total cars,
worldwide, than the obsolete model
And this proves your original statement that it out PERFORMS the classic
how? - just means there are more suckers buying a overpriced and
under-powered hatchback out there. I assume you are in the US from your use
of "highways" - for those readers in the UK, a SKODA diesel hatchback is
quicker round a track than a Cooper, and a lot easier on the pocket.

You certainly may stay around here, i have no objection, but from what i
have seen, the only reason you are here is to put people down by obnoxious
posts. alt.autos.new-mini may be more helpful if you do have a question on
your car.
Ps, learn some grammar! - "For that is precisely the name of one of my
cars." is not a sentence, just a fragment.

this newsgroup isnt around for people to argue whos car is better, it is for
technical help, and to share knowledge (an a lot more if i knew the
constitution).

Who cares if it is a sentence or not? Was there something that you
didn't understand? Who is arguing? I simply made a statement. As did
you. Alt.autos.new-mini has nothing for me. My car is three years old.
Which wouldn't be new.

Anyway maybe your so called MINI isn't new, but it's still not an Issigonis
Mini, so it and you don't belong here!

American twat? You are a f.cking bigot, taffie! Can you make up your
mind. First you say this new group is for "f.cking mini's" then you say
it is for "issigonis". Please change the name of the newsgroup, so the
world will know what the hell kind of people are supposed to be here. As
far as I know "you" don't belong here. With all of your homosexual and
anti American bashing. What kind of place is this? And I am still
waiting for you to hunt me down and gut me! You are a COWARD!

Can't you read?  I said when your in America you TWAT, not you American
twat!  And yes this newsgroup is for Mini's and there's a charter somewhere
that apparently states which models that includes too and there's no mention
of BMW or it's BINI abomination on it!  And no why should we change the name
simply to please a small minded moron like you!

I'm certainly not anti American or a homosexual basher as I have already
pointed out many times, but I am about to pay for my plane tickets, so
expect an unpleasant visit anytime soon!

You have made several anti American and several insulting homosexual
statements, in previous posts. Why are you denying your prejudice
attitude? As far as the news group... Go ahead and leave it named mini.
But with a general title as that, you will continue to get postings from
ALL mini owners, old, new,BMW, whatever. Its like having a newsgroup
titled alt.collectors.knives.
I won't hold my breath waiting for a coward like you. Poor lonely, lonely

Well if I did make abusive comments, they were only intended for you Mark,
just to piss you off like you piss us off and nothing more.  As for getting
posts on all Mini's, well that's fine if it's a variety that was produced
between 1959-2000 and that includes the Riley Elf and Wolseley Hornet too or
one based on the Issigonis Mini, but the BMW BINI just doesn't cut the
mustard here mate.

Then change the f.cking name of the newsgroup to "mini's before 2000" or
shut the f.ck up. Really, how stupid can you be? sh.t, not only are you
a bigot against Americans and homosexuals, you are a bigot against the
BMW mini. Now I know where you are coming from. The world is only to see
through your eyes. Too bad you are blind, lonely and pathetic. It seems

Again,no input. A retard huh, my my, the members of this newsgroup are
prejudice against almost everyone. Do you want to put any other members
of society down? You may now return to your "big picture" book.

Well I don't think we're particularly prejudice against anyone, we just
don't like the BMW BINI that's all and I don't see why we should change the
name of this newsgroup when it relates to a famous small British car that
changed the face of motoring and was produced for over 41 years!

Well sh.t head just because it has the same name, well it's generally
displayed as MINI, whilst ours is Mini, why should we change the name of
this newsgroup since it was conceived before there was a BMW MINI/BINI.  And
if any brain dead BINI owners find their way on to here and are to stupid to
see the group concerns the Issigonis variety, we'll just politely point them
in the right direction as usual.  ;O)

Just as I thought, Steve you are a big fat pussy. Why is it that most of
the regular members of this newsgroup,in particular Steve and Taffy, can
only think about homosexuality? Is it time you came out of the closet?
Is it an old-mini thing, what, I just don't get it.
Taffy - 04 Apr 2006 16:08 GMT

homosexuality, so no it's not a Mini thing, it's more a BMW BINI thing

No I can always beat you in an argument regarding my passions Mark, but I'm
just of the same opinion as everyone else on this Newsgroup and that's that
we only chat about real Mini's and not BMW wanabees.

I rest my case. Proof that you are opinionated and one sided. Posting in
a generally titled newsgroup, one sided postings. And my, what a popular
newsgroup it is. A whopping total of 4 regulars. WOW ! And if you can
beat me in an argument, do it. Please try for once to make a little
sense though. sh.t, what am I thinking, you can't. Example, Taffy only
pops in once a day.....lie,lie,lie.
