Nick - 29 Apr 2006 12:02 GMT Hi, im Nicky I have been a passive observer here watching many of the exchanges of certain people in this group, being American I take offence at all the comments directed at my Country, we are far from perfect but many us know that already. Firstly I would like to comment on Madmax, you dont help yourself, you are deliberatly provoking the situation, I am considering not subsribing to this newsgroup because of the things you have said and your constant interferance with innocent postings, critical of anything you object to and the remarks you make about people and there minis. I live on the east coast, I have had my old style mini for 6 years, all i get from people is support, including people who drive the new style mini, i feel you are not genuine at all and make things worse. Your name calling, references to images that would i feel effect most people reading them are appauling, do you know how many children might read this newsgroup, this isnt exclusive to adults you know! That goes for everyone else that uses such digusting references, including barspeed and taffy in that. I just couldnt sit back and tolerate this any longer, if you carry on all of you, not in my character but will get whoever it takes to get rid of you, to stop posting this garbage on here!
Taffy - 29 Apr 2006 12:33 GMT Well Nicky most of us aren't replying to the Troll anymore (myself included) as we've kill-filed him via our outlook express accounts, so we don't see his filth and we don't feel obliged to answer.
Don't give up on this newsgroup, just ignore certain people or if you use outlook express, follow the guide given in one of the posts and kill-file the trouble maker.

Fitzy - 29 Apr 2006 17:07 GMT I agree with Taffy there Nicky,, don't abandon the group because of one troll, after all, I'm sure you will agree, this NG very rarely suffers with abusive or bad language, I have been tempted on many occasions to reply with the same bad language, but decided he/it is not worth the effort, please don't judge Taff and Jono on how they have reacted, as we are all different, and if you check back through the postings , you will find lots of postings from both these people offering nothing but good tips and advice, stick around Nick, killfile the troll,, it's getting back to normal, Fitzy

These people started the hole thing. I came to this group with a simple question and got cussed out to no end. I have just been trying to stand up for myself. If you are a true American you should leave this newsgroup now! These people are nothing but low life bigots with nothing to contribute but pat themselves on the back for being 3rd world poor. And yes when they star to swear, I will retaliate. They have been nothing but anti American and anti mini, unless its what they own.
Nicky - 01 May 2006 09:41 GMT Hello, I have only just read your reply, as I said before you do not help yourself, having spent far to much time reading posts here, you arent alone but you are a provocatour, you instigate hatred by making unwelcomed comments and the use of foul and wholey unacceptable language, that is where i get off. You speak like a child when you say THEY STARTED it, OMG! Grow up, your a grown up arent you! If you dont like what has been said then walk away, and the same goes for everyone else, walk away or your all in trouble. And why should I leave this Newsgroup on your say so, no one dictates anything to me so why should you, its for me decide wether or not they are as you state bigots and 3rd world poor, whats that all about? You could say im biase, I lived in England for 7 years, and they are not what you describe. Reference to anti-americanisms, im used to it wherever I go, travelling the world, and in this forum its been used and directed primarily at you, so I know most if not all is not founded in truth or is genuine. I will not tolerate any unnessasary swearing or name calling across threads, anti-anything, you can criticise the new mini as you can the old, but anything less that constructive I will just flip my lid. Taffy, Barspeed, Fitzy and Madmax, you have all been warned! Cut it all out!
Madmax - 01 May 2006 15:06 GMT > Hello, > I have only just read your reply, as I said before you do not help [quoted text clipped - 16 lines] > anything less that constructive I will just flip my lid. Taffy, > Barspeed, Fitzy and Madmax, you have all been warned! Cut it all out! OK, so you don't like me to tell you what to do, huh. Then don't tell me what to do. What the hell are you going to do about it? I stated what you were asking about, and you come back with a bunch of gibberish. You may be used to anti American criticism, but I am not. Perhaps you are too passive or not very proud of your own country. Anyone who would insult my country, to my face, would never do it again. In this group, all I can use are words. If you don't like it, leave.
Nicky - 01 May 2006 10:16 GMT Enoughs enough, nothing constructive, nothing at all.... Dont worry, I will be staying for the moment. N

I live in Australia and like to read the different perspectives of the different members of the group. I have made suggestions on here before thinking that my experiences may have been of some assistance only to be jumped on by certain people.
I have ever only owned the classic mini yet I don't mind the newer version hence I still take the view that everybody should be able to write in regadless of their preferances without everybody criticising anyone's country, parentage or the need to resort to language that as you say might be viewed by younger people and considered the norm here.
Good on you mate for trying to pull everybody back from the slagging matches that seem to get so heated at times. Regards Peter

Steve68s - 02 May 2006 11:23 GMT Thing with the new version mate its not a mini, regardless what you think, I respect you for liking it but I may as well post things about Audi A4s on here, an A4 has as much right here as a new Bini, its German, its big & its frontwheel drive, do you know why the classic was called mini? do you know what the word mini means? go & find a book & educate yourself, get your self a tape measure & compare the size of the two cars, then if you want to still talk new mini go to alt.autos.newbini.

[SNIP] Personally I think the closest thing you'll get to an original mini these days (without building one from a Heritage shell et al, is a Smart Car. Basically had the same design specs as the original mini, ie Compact easy to drive, good fuel economy and it has to be dirt cheap. The main difference being the mini had to take 4/5 people whereas the smart car only has to take 2. Reason for this, how many people do you usually see in a car these days ?? ONE ! Plus I think they even do a London to Brighton in them ??? I don't think they have a newsgroup for the smart car BUT there again we don't get smart car owners posting on here ! VIVA la Smart Car owners ! for they surely don't troll and post OT
Jim (not a smart car owner, but rather that than a bini)

I used to have a 100A and not THAT long ago either, about 8 years ago I think, it was a 1977 (S reg) barn find that I picked up for about £50 and it had less that 10,000 miles on it !!! At MOT time the tester almost passed out when he looked underneath proclaiming that it looked brand new. Shame the old things were rot boxes as that was one car I could never fault. I had to change the clutch in the thing and it took me less that 20 minutes. I got shot of it and bought another mini though :-)
Jim
Fitzy - 06 May 2006 20:56 GMT The 100A that was a great motor also, like you said though, they where rot boxes, I changed a few clutches in them myself, got it down to 17 mins at one point, The hardest part was jacking it up and removing the n/s/front wheel, Fitzy

If certain people repected other peoples passion for cars then this would be a nicer place to be around. Myself, I ignore the constant bini bashing by the regulars in here. Comments about comparing the Audi A4 to a mini are pointless, how can you be enthusiastic about a souless rep mobile (although if you are I respect that !) (I think). Mini's, old and new, have personalities and characters. The car is built in Oxford, by a workforce who are enthusiastic for the product they create. Owners of new and old socialise and mix, as was proved this weekend at Brands Hatch where we had a fabulous 2 days of racing and a brilliant 2 parade laps with mixed old and new minis. There is only a small percentage of owners who behave in this untolerant blinkered way (thankfully), 99.9% of classic owners have grown up and can respect other peoples choice. We actively socialise and encourage a shared love of cars. I'm not angry at the people that can't grow up, all it does is makes me a little sad that people still can think this way. But again, its a free society, and people are entitled to there own opinions and views, and I also respect that !

Like Steve said, if you want to talk real original Mini stick around, but if you want to talk BINI then there's a group for that elsewhere.

Steve68s - 02 May 2006 16:15 GMT If it aint 10 foot long its not mini, my A4 has a character of its own, it also puts a smile on my face, especially when new binis find it impossible to out accelerate it, surprisingly a bini roofline is higher than a B5 chassis A4 with sports suspension, the bini is also only slightly shorter in length, my A4 is front wheel drive too making it as much right to be on here as a bini, if you think a Audi A4 is a huge exec car take another look, preferably with you eyes open, its of similar proportions to a ford focus, its even better when you remove things like bumpers & find its actually got not rust, this is a 10 year old car, I have seen new binis with rust, at least they have something in common with the genuine article I guess,

First we have the trusty Mini, on this group since year dot anyway! Then we get the sodding Bini, encroached on us since 2001, now someone thinks they are entitled to impose a bloody nazi A4, sorry audi A4, get a grip, read what it says on the tin, alt.autos.mini, a group for cars called Mini.

> especially when new binis find > it impossible to out accelerate it, surprisingly a bini roofline is You might find that new mini's don't out accelerate you as they don't play the 17yr olds game of wanting to race at every traffic light, you'll hopefully grow out of it someday.
> higher than a B5 chassis A4 with sports suspension, the bini is also > only slightly shorter in length, my A4 is front wheel drive too > making it as much right to be on here as a bini, Errr, yeah, right, whatever. Audi / Mini .... oh yeah I see your point.
> if you think a Audi > A4 is a huge exec car take another look, preferably with you eyes > open, its of similar proportions to a ford focus, its even better Right, because thats what I said wasn't it Steve "Huge Exec Car". Oh, sorry, no I didn't did I - I said "souless rep mobile" didn't I, I should know, we have enough of them at work which I use on a weekly basis.
> when you remove things like bumpers & find its actually got not rust, > this is a 10 year old car, I have seen new binis with rust, at least Yes, I'm sure you have, any car that is poorly maintained will rust you numpty, even your precious Audi.

No need for that sort of language, but if that’s how you choose to interact with society, then that’s a hallowed path you a more than welcome to tread.

Like I said, most of us do, you'll find that a lot of people who have Bini's also had Mini's, you'll also find quite a few of us who still have both.
Either party should not be tarnished by the small minded idiots who seem hell bent on trying to wind the other one up.
That goes both ways, we all still have a lot to learn.

I mean it's not being racist or anything, it's just that the BINI is a different car and I have no interest in it whatsoever, much like I had/have no interest in the MiniMetro either.
So you may have an aim to create harmony in the world of 2 different cars, but I know I'm just not interested and I doubt many of the others here are either. The thing is at a classic car show a few years back okay 1987! A mate of mine had a 1960 Austin Seven (Mini) and he went over to the actual Austin Seven Owners Club (who catered for the vintage cars only) and asked if he could join their club, but they pointed out their club was for the vintage model only and that his car was really a Mini and he should join a Mini Owners Club!
So there you go 2 different cars, same name but similar attitudes and that's the way it goes I'm afraid no matter how much you jump up and down waving your arms, the classic Real Mini 1959-2000 has a big following as you know and you can't expect all owners of real Mini's to accept a large German hatchback no matter what name badge it wears.
I personally don't like BINI's and I don't particularly want to socialise with the owners either, so I'm quite happy that this group is BINI free and only promotes the real thing, anyway that's my 2 pence worth.
