Well you shouldn't really mix and match with your tyres mate.  Yes the 145
Pirellis are okay as they were original equipment for 12" wheeled Mini's for
years and years, but the best mod is to fit the 165/60*12's size tyres as
made by Yokohama (which everyone claims to be the best in the dry or wet on
Mini's) or Falcon if money is tight (well even these are better than the
145's), but Dunlop used to stock them too, but don't seem to anymore.

But I wouldn't personally have 145's on the front or back with either 175 or
155 fitted on the car too.  You should use 145's all round.  I'd assume it's
a bit like fitting the old crossply tyres with radials and is a no no,
remember the old 1970's advert?

Anyway see what the spanner monkeys say at your local tyre fitters, but I'm
sure they'd recommend you fit the same profile all around to be safe.

Never seen a 12" x 175 wide tyre what profile is it?  The rolling
circumference /overall height could also be different as the tyre wall
height is a % of the tyre width.

We had to put a tyre on my son's mini last week, it had Falcons on but I
couldn't get one locally in the time he needed it in we ended up with a Sime
165/60x12. Anyone heard of these?

It cost £35 fitted, new valve and balanced.

No never heard of Sime, probably a budget brand i'd imagine.  But i'm a bit
in the dark over the 175 tyres too!

You need all 4 the same size to be legal in the UK for the MOT

Cheers

Hi,
Not quite right. Tyres on the same AXLE must be the same size. Front to back
is not imnportant as far as the  MOT is concerned.

lol, reminds me of the old 'you must not mix radial and crossply on the same
axle' rule.  No 'crossply on rear axle - radial front' wasnt it too?

Something like that, I can never remember which way round. I always have to
check the MOT tester's book

Well I did mention that earlier about the 1970's tyre safety advertisement.

Thanks for putting me right xx.  I always think its a bit like wearing
shoes. If you wear odd ones it feels strange and you are more prone to slip
/ twist an ankle. The car must feel the same, so when it concerns sticking
to the road or stopping. Don't compromise, that's my motto

Cheers

I've used a set of 175/50x13 Simes here in Oz - they where good until
they got a little over half worn, then they started tramlining.  But
for the price you could throw them away at that point and get a second
set and still be cheaper than one set of some of the others around (in
Oz at least)
