Hi,

I now hav found a decent Cooper, 98, rust free but with, as the pre
owner states, the synchromesh of the second gear to be repaired. The car
has 43k km which is, ah, 27k miles on it.

Is the possible snychromesh problem possible or can it be another
problem?

I am not sure but I read something about late Coopers having some sort
of plastic ring in the gearbox which wears?

Yep, probably...

This is the mainshaft bearing, the later ones run some sort of kak bearing!
Earlier ones use a good full-track bearing, much better.

If the gearbox is being rebuilt, get all the clearances checked as the later
boxes were kinda thrown together with what was available in the parts bin!

TTFN,
Dave
