Hi,

I'm looking to sell my mini privately and was wondering if you guys
could suggest a price seeing as there a few problems with it, I'm at the
stage where I don't know if I should spend the money doing it up or
simply sell it as it is because there are some issues with it. I have to
look on how much it would cost me to put right and how much it would
lose if I sold it in it's current state.

It's rusting near the bottom of the doors and around the headlights,
probably needs new door skins for a long term fix.
It has recently been serviced but does not have a full service history
There is an ongoing problem with the car revving, it seems to stick and
go up to about 4000 revs, as soon as you pump the accelerator it returns
to normal
The front grille is dented and it needs new stripes and cooper emblems

It's a 1999 model with sports pack. Any ideas on what I should do as I'm
at a loss right now.

Thanks,

Neil.

Forgot to add 40k miles on the clock

1999 will be one of the last ones, good to see BMW quality control made no
diffrence! get it fixed & keep it, new doorskins, wings & a respray & it
should be good for another 10 years, 40k aint a lot, get it to an
independent specialist for the mis fire, loads of waxoil & it shouls be ok,

Steve.

1999 and it already has rust !  Quality !

Yes like Steve said, BMW were in control from 1994 and standards did
drop, but my Mini is a 1990 Cooper model and it's still going strong.
So I agree, get the bodywork sorted (which won't cost the earth), but
get a good Mini Specialist to do it and not any body-shop bodger and
the throttle sticking problem is probably something simple too.

Oh and 40k is barely run in!  Mine's gone around the clock!  ;O)

Mind you I doubt it'd really need 2 new front wings as I'm sure the
rust can be cut out and the area effectively repaired instead?

Could be something simple as the throttle cable sticking.

Yeah and on older carb Mini's a spot of 2in1 or Everyman Oil on the
throttle cable (where it attaches to the carb) sorts that.  Not sure
how you manage with fuel injected Mini's though, but i'm sure there's a
straight forward fix too?

Thanks guys you have made me feel a bit better. Just one question
regarding the rust on the doors, do they normally cut out the rusted
bits and fill it with fiberglass then respray?
Taffy - 16 May 2006 14:27 GMT
Depends how bad the rust is I guess, if it's really nasty there is door
reskins available, so you get half a new door fitted.  Best thing to do
is take it to a good Mini Specialist Body Shop and see what they
suggest after giving it a look over.

No, mate,
Only the bodgers do that! The way to go is a new doorskin. Not too difficult
to fit if you have the right tools.
