buying a Demo Mini with 753 miles on it

spellow@gmail.com - 10 Jun 2006 14:19 GMT Ok, so here is the dilemna.
My wife wants a mini, but she wants the purple haze color, they stopped that color this year.
We managed to find a 2006 early model Cooper S in Purple haze, it is a demo car with 753 miles on it.
The dealer says that this demo has been driven by the same salesman for all the miles it has on it. I'm told Customers test drive other cars that eventually get sent back to the factory and are not sold to the customers.
The Salesman I that drove it I talked to, he says he broke it in very well, he seems to be a mini enthusiast.
My question is has anybody bought a mini demo before and what are your thoughts on buying one?

Good morning. If you'll repost this on alt.autos.new-mini I'm sure you'll get some helpful response. This NG typically deals with the original Mini :)
Taffy - 11 Jun 2006 02:15 GMT Well to be honest mate you'd be better off buying one of these:- http://minis.freeservers.com/
And no that bloke can't be a real Mini enthusiast either, because the BINI (BMW so called MINI) isn't a real Mini i'm afraid.

Tim - 12 Jun 2006 04:16 GMT no your wrong, hes a MINI enthusiast, we are Mini enthusiasts...a small difference in lower and upper case lettering but its all in the marketing...

No, you are full of sh.t. As I stated he is an enthusiast of the only current production Mini. I don't care what kind of letter casing you use.
Tim - 19 Jun 2006 04:18 GMT there you are again, just can't help yourself can you?
theres a world of difference between the Mini and the MINI, marketing and brand "ownership" not withstanding.
One day the medical proffesion will get your medication right and we won't have to listen to your offensive dribble any longer.....failing that you could always go out back and give yourself a dose of lead poisoning, or a severe case of rope rash of the larxyn....

I disagree with your assumption. Someone can be a "real" Mini enthusiast without owning one. And in this case, the car being sold is a demo. The dealer selling it isn't trying to pass it off as an original.
Case in point: the service manager of Downtown MINIs here in Orlando is also a member of Sunshine Minis, a group that caters to both the original Mini and the BMW MINI. His wife drive a new MINI, but even though he sells and services the new ones, his daily driver is an original (a great looking car with a custom "Nemo" paint job).
Here's a link to a pic of Nemo if anyone's interested:

I won't post a link to his wife's MINI! ;)

My posting was a response to Taffy, and not made to be argumentative. In my response I simply pointed out my contention that one could be a Mini enthusiast, even if one owned a MINI. As an example I posted a link to a picture of a Mini which is owned and driven daily by someone who also deals daily with the MINI. He is a Mini enthusiast. That is the only point I was making.
That being said, did you look at the picture? What do you think of the paint scheme? It's unique, to be sure!
If I may pose another question to you, have you ever considered "posing" some of your models in different settings, such as cityscapes? Perhaps photographing some of the race cars on a race track? It could be interesting.

As far as how to pose the models on a track, you would first construct a miniature set. Shouldn't be that tough. They're 1:43, right (assuming you "fat-fingered" the keyboard when you typed 1:34) :)

Vanguards are 1/43, these are Corgi. Although I am also a model maker, constructing many diferent sets would take months, time which I do not have.

Taffy - 13 Jun 2006 01:39 GMT Yeah nice picture of a nice Mini dauph, but just proves my point that to be a real Mini enthusiast, you have to own a real Mini and not the BMW hatchback fake.
Taffy
dauph59 - 13 Jun 2006 03:59 GMT > Yeah nice picture of a nice Mini dauph, but just proves my point that > to be a real Mini enthusiast, you have to own a real Mini and not the > BMW hatchback fake. > > Taffy Taf, allow me to play the devil's advocate... If someone owned two Minis and loved them, cared or them, knew them inside and out, you'd certainly agree that they would be a Mini enthusiast, right?
And if that same person went out one day and bought a TR3, they haven't lost their love of the Minis. They're still a Mini enthusiast, correct?
What if they only owned one Mini? Couldn't they still bean enthusiast? I say they can.
Now, the gentleman in question owns the Nemo Mini and a MINI cabrio. His profession is a service manager at a MINI dealership. Who knows? Maybe he'd preer to work at a Mini dealership, but that isn't an option available to him. He still has to feed his family, right?
I thought to myself that perhaps I was misinterpreting what you meant by "enthusiast". After all, I'm an American, and you (as a people, not personally) did invent the language! :) So I went to dictionary.com and looked it up:
en·thu·si·ast n.
1. One who is filled with enthusiasm; one who is ardently absorbed in an interest or pursuit. 2. A zealot; a fanatic.
I submit to you that someone can own one, two, or even zero Minis and still be an enthusiast. I grant you that there are diferent levels of enthusiasm. Heck, there is probably someone, somewhere, that has an old, beat-up Mini rusting away up on blocks in his back yard, being used as a hen house. And shame on him for treating a great car that way! But IF such a person existed, he most certainly would NOT be an enthusiast!
This has all been somewhat tongue-in-cheek, and I hope it will be taken with a grain of salt. I do love the Mini, but even I will admit that I can never match your enthusiasm without owning one. Maybe one day, huh?

Steve68s - 13 Jun 2006 12:42 GMT Fact is Dauphin, if a man owns 2 cars, a mini & a bini, he only has one mini, even though the bini may be a nice car, it is not mini, the original mini was called mini because it was small, this is something bini owners can't understand, they are different sizes, one is mini one is not, so if a BMW euro hatch that has a higher roof line than a Audi A4, is 2 feet longer than a real mini its not mini is it? the only people that argue with this are people like you & madmax, so if you want contribute to discussing classic mini please feel free to post, if not say quiet, one other thing when I am posting on topic things about the bini, on the bini forum don't call me a troll when its if fact you! TROLL :-)
Steve.
Daft Dauphin now added to the kill file,

If you want facts steve, there is no such car as a bini. Please! There is a car, made by BMW, named mini. So, if a person owns an old mini and a new mini, they own two mini's, regardless of size, color or manufacturer. Face the facts, you are an idiot and YES you definitely are a troll in the other newsgroup. Plus you are just constantly full of sh.t.
dauph59 - 13 Jun 2006 22:06 GMT > Fact is Dauphin, if a man owns 2 cars, a mini & a bini, he only has one > mini, even though the bini may be a nice car, it is not mini, the original [quoted text clipped - 55 lines] >> >>Charlie Well, since Steve has kill filed me, he may not see this, but the fact is that I have not called him a troll. He does post on the MINI NG, and usually has constructive things to say. Not always, but "almost" no one is complaining.
The only thing I ever remotely said about trolling was when he called me a troll for posting here. I asked him why when i post here was I a troll, but when he posts on a.a.n-m is he not a troll. He answered that he was responding ON TOPIC to a question posted on that NG. And sure enough, that time he was. There have been plenty of times that this was not the case. Even so, I never called him a troll.
If someone has an issue with madmax, I can understand that. I've read the archives of this NG, and have seen the bantering back and forth. But to tell you the truth, I've been flamed by madmax too. And I'm sure I will be again, probably as a result of this post!
Look, the Mini is a great car. This is my opinion, one that is shared by MOST of the people posting here. There are those who want to flame or troll. Unfortunately, not much can be done about that. It's gonna happen. The Mini is "big" enough to take it (pun intended). :)
Sorry for rambling (again), but I feel I'm somewhat on trial here. The fact is that I am NOT a troll, I love the Mini, and I am not out to cause trouble in this NG. The only "crimes" I'm guilty of are owning a MINI and being an American (as one poster said on December 4th, "I also happen to dislike most Americans I've meet").
So Steve, on the outside chance that you see this, hopefully you'll reconsider my "troll" label here so we can move on.

It's just when people start bad mouthing cars with the same name or calling Americans names I have a problem. I originally came to this newsgroup with a question about my 2002 mini. Instead of being politely directed to the correct newsgroup, myself and my car were insulted to no end. That is why I refuse to leave. Certain people here are just very set in their ways and have no respect for the rest of the world. If steve has kill filled you, thats even better, he has nothing good to say.
Taffy - 14 Jun 2006 02:55 GMT Well i've got nothing against Americans as I have relations there, but i'm no fan of the BINI. Okay there's a lot of politics regarding the BINI, but I myslef just see them as a replacement Metro and that was a car that was designed to replace our Mini almost 30 years ago and I naturally didn't like them either!
So yes i'd have been happy if they'd called it the BMW Metro or something as that would be far more suitable considering the size and weight of a BINI.
But yes if you love your BINI, then good for you, but I just consider them to be another car to ignore and i'm happy to contribute to this newsgroup as it concerns the real thing.

So what do I care if someone doesn't like my car? Believe it or not, I've run into a couple of people i.r.l. who don't care for it... not many, but a few. But that's ok, it's their own opinion.
I understand that none of this is really a topic that belongs on an automotive NG. I apologize for adding to it. I just wanted to give my two cents worth. I'm going back to a.a.n-m now! :)

Taffy - 16 Jun 2006 00:12 GMT Well I always used my Mini's for travelling great distances to work each day for years and in all weathers throughout the year too.
I mean work was boring, but the journey was something to look forward too and then on a weekend i'd be off up to the Midlands or down South to Bealieu or wherever to attend Mini Shows.
So yeah I clocked up some serious mileage, but I just enjoyed it (still do too) and to drive anything else would have been boring. Well I did try giving up Mini's a couple of times and went the Hot Hatch route, but I just got so bored of them and always ended up pining for another Mini.
Anyway you might be surprised too as once your daughters have had a go of driving a Mini for a few days, then they may change their minds? I did at least! ;O)

The long haul huh. Pretty funny from the newbie. Like I said, it's only because of the a.s holes, like you, that I stay. So start typing, girl!
Madmax - 19 Jun 2006 15:02 GMT > still having toruble with the medication are you Max? > Like I said before a dose of lead will cure all your troubles, pref 357 > between the eyes at point blank range! Ooh...Tim is a big man! Pretty bold with the written word. You have me shaking in my boots. No, wait, sorry I was just laughing at you. Now go back to nursing on your bitch mother.
Tim - 20 Jun 2006 22:49 GMT shaking now are we? Must me you need the Riterlin, or maybe some valium. But I still beleive the best cure for your problem is that high dose of lead I mentioned earlier...if you have problems self administering just join up with GW's boys, Im sure theres a friendly Iraqi who'd love to give you your medication.

Tim - 21 Jun 2006 11:34 GMT hahaha and you'd make judgements about me,now that is rich. Oh and for the record my mothers quite well thank you so needs no nurseing, and shes far from a bitch, shes actualy a really nice person...and far from being queer as well, well at least my wife has never mentioned it. But there we go, just go's to prove not only do you spout sh.t about Minis being the same as MINIs, but you also spout sh.t about other things.....could this be becuase you have no knowledge of either subject? I suspect thats the case.
I can't rmember who it was who said it but Im sure he wasnt an American, but...
"sometimes its better to say nothing and be thought a fool, than to open ones mouth and dispel any doubts."

Oh and for the > record my mothers quite well thank you so needs no nurseing, and shes far [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > "sometimes its better to say nothing and be thought a fool, than to open > ones mouth and dispel any doubts." Actually the quote is: Sometimes its better to say nothing, and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and prove the summation right. As far as making judgments, I only stated facts. You are a queer and your mother was a whore. I never said anything about your mother being a bitch or needing nursing. Those comments came right out of your empty head. I would never compare the new mini with the old ,piece of sh.t, mini either. Your credibility continually goes down hill with every lame comment you make.
Tim - 22 Jun 2006 03:05 GMT and yours is shot to peices...
to quote your self
"No flame Charlie, as long as people are civil I have no problem. If steve has kill filled you, thats even better, he has nothing good to say."
so where is this college paper your writing.....
and I still havn't meet and American I've liked......and you don't go anyway towards chaging that opinion....

I still stand behind my quote. What is your point. None, as usual. As far as the study, like I said, it is complete and turned in. The class really got a good laugh from it. To bad it was before all of your asinine comments. Oh,well, like I said, the lower class English, like yourself, really are white trash.
