Evening all,
after fitting a RC40, i noticed a quiet popping on over-run, ie if i blip
the throttle between changing from 3rd to 2nd etc, on taking up 2nd gear the
exhaust pops, bangs and cracks for a second or so.  Ive recently fitted a
K&N induction kit - ie a big cone filter not unlike carb models.  since
this, the cracks and pops have become louder and last for up to 2 secs on
change downs etc.  Personally i think its really cool, but is it having a
detrimental effect on my engine at all?

thanks
RS
Barspeed and his magical Mini's - 24 Jul 2006 01:11 GMT
I have had this on my 2001 Classic Mini 7 since i fitted a bolt on RC40, it
reminds me very much of when i had a suped up morris minor 1100, this i
think is ok, have been running it for over a year now like this and has had
no effect on the engine, i definatly found an increase in performance
though.
Must be the gases being chucked around the silencer, the original late model
Minis had huge rear silencers and a average size middle one, the RC40
generally is just one silencer, so lots of gas bouncing around!!! lol

I think your right there Jono,
sounds like the unburnt fuel in the exhaust system is exploded by the heat
from the front pipes,

Well i've always fitted Maniflow exhaust products and i've never had
that problem, mind you i've always fitted twin-box exhausts.
