yeah, nige, which of us is more stupid? Us for buying a ?20 5 gallon drum of
oil and changing it ourselves or you for buying a plastic mini and paying a
"certifiable" mechanic ?200 to do it?

Not applicable here, but why would you want to buy one instead of (for
example) a Honda Civic type-R?

The new mini is a perfectly adequate car if you prefer style over
engineering I guess.

Oh my, I am sure he asked for advice in his first thread.

Oh, i see. He didn't want advice, he wanted "OMG! OMG! U REELY GOT 1 OF
THOSE GR8 BMWs? OMG! OMG! I WISH I WAS AS COOL AND MANLY AS YOU!"

Too bad he shan't find such a thing here.

AH well.

(what was that about not feeding the troll? hmm. I forgot)

A what? I'd recommend a fiat seicento if you really have to buy a piece of
crap.

Well, looks like you're not going to get any good advice here.  The simple
advice to you would be if you want one, buy one.  I love my old Mini but
I've never driven a new one so I can't tell.  I'd like to have a go to see
what it's like.

Take it for a test drive and compare it to an older model.  Also compare it
to a "small car" from another manufacturer to see if it is in fact the right
car for you.

Either way, enjoy the new purchase.  New things smell nice.

Thanks for the sensible answer, unlike most of the tossers here, you have
some sense.

hey guys cant you all spot a troll when you meet him....

if you want one then buy one.....me personaly I dont want one, Im perfectly
happy with the 6 original classic Mini's that I have....but remeber in 10
years time the MINI will be just another 3 door hatchback with no history,
no following and probably be consigned the mildly interesting cars of the
ealry 2000's....one thing I feel confident in, is that come 2099, IE the
next century they wont be holding an international poll of the cars of the
past century and listing the MINI as one of the top contenders, and it
certainly wont go on to win....unless somthing very weird happens.
The original classic Mini is just that, because it has a 40 year history of
being a family car, race car, rally car and cult classic, and it is basicaly
the same from the 1st in August of 1959 to the last on the 4th of October
2000, in my collection I have one of the first Septemeber 1960, and one of
the last March 2000, they are both a joy to drive. I race one in the local
classic series, and many moons ago I used to rally one, but most importantly
I still love to drive them. I have driven the MINI, both Cooper and Cooper
S, and I personaly wouldnt buy one. I think they are overpriced and over
complex and have gone away from the whole idea behind the original. I'd save
my money, buy a more modest 3 door hatch and invest wisley the balance of
the funds.
In NZ the MINI is 45grand, and a Peuegot 206 is 27grand, similar size,
simialr style of car and similar in Modern features...so why would I want to
spend 13grand more?

ffs............all of you get a life
Greg Dobson - 27 Aug 2003 12:29 GMT
Good point Tim, id rather spend 5 grand less & get a WRX, i was really
dissapointed when i drove the new Cooper S, i thought the supercharger would
give it more performance. But i drive a turbo charged car everyday so im
used to that performance.

As for you Nigel if you like the new BMW mini buy one, i assume you are a
very unintelligent, under educated person who's omly defence of critisim is
to use revolting language, enjoy your BMW

Whoops Nige,

Some people in here really have a problem with the New MINI.

Me, it's a nice car and I'd probably buy one if I had (a lot) more
money.  As it's bearing the Cooper name I guess sit will be something
special and not usual crap :)

The new MINI Cooper S is a nice car.....

But it isn't mini

As far as I know John Cooper never tuned it.

Call it a BMW 116S is a more accurate description.

I think it's sad that the car needs to steal the pedigree label to sell.

I personaly can't ever see it being accepted by mini enthusiasts because it
shares nothing at all with the old car we all love.

Hear Hear...  It's about as close to the original as Beetle is to Beetle;
German marketing going mad...

I couldn't disagree with you more. But I think it's a UK vs. US thing. Here
the release of the BINI helped all of us with Minis to garner some
recognition and add value to our cars. In the UK you lads had Minis until
2000 so had no worries.

Emmanuel who is searching like the devil for a BINI S to keep his Mayfair
Mongrel company in the garage.

the Mini is to MINI what Sheep is to a Lama.....an animal with wool but not
much else in common

and its not an anti US thing at all, we dont need the Mini VS MINI debate to
fuel that one....you just need to keep GW in power, and the UK'ers just need
another term of Blair...thats hould be enough to keep it going.
