Hi

I am in the process of removing the front wheel bearing to renew them.  I
have got the hub off have removed the old bearings and the outer race from
the outside of the hub.  The haynes manual says just tap it out which i did
on the outside but the inside has a ring fitted (the oil seal sits on it)
does this fit in a groove or will the outer race just push it out.  I dont
want to get too heavy handed with it and break summat!

thanks

Remove oil seal, remove spacer ring, remove the outer race

Fit new race, refit spacer ring, fit *new* oil seal.

The ring is just to space the seal away from the bearing. It doesn't sit in
a groove.

Hi,
If you are talking about the "ring" in the centre of the hub, then this
should be there and is part of the hub and cannot be removed. It is there
for the bearings to sit against when they are fully home in the hub. If it
was not there, there would be nothing to space the bearings correctly and to
stop them sliding in or out.

Check September's MINI magazine it has an artical how to change the wheel

If you can't get hold of a copy i will scan it and send it.
