Socks - 25 Jun 2007 14:16 GMT Good day,
Well, I haven't checked this NG for quite some time and I thought I would drop in and see if there is anything interesting happening in the Mini scene. Boy was I wrong! Looks like the same bullshit still exists from the same f.cking idiots that so enjoy posting their verbal diarrhea all the time!
cheers

I have started a campaign to try to make the NG useful again. It entails encouraging all the real users of the group to create message filters to mark all messages from the adolescent w.nkers as read and set the view to unread messages. This part has been working for the few of us still here. Every day, I add another two or three idiots to the crap-file. So far the problem is that there is very little real mini-related content being posted. I will soon be able to help in this regard a little bit more, but right now, I'm in the middle of some intense activity. The left side axle on my MGB-based Victor Special broke a week ago and I'm without transportation until the new axle arrives. I'm using a borrowed vehicle to pick up a young singer-songwriter from London who is arriving at DFW Wednesday. He will be visiting here in the Tulsa area for a few weeks to soak up the "Tulsa Sound" that has served JJ Cale and Eric Clapton so well, with a side trip to Memphis for a few days.
"The Luggage," my '67 Cooper S, is parked semi-permanently on the driveway, in running condition, because the drivers here in Tulsa are so incredibly bad. A large percentage of the drivers here do not stop for stop signs or red traffic lights. The police do very little to enforce the traffic safety laws here, so the quality of driving has become really terrible. I have at least a chance of avoiding collisions when driving, but I can do little to avoid being hit from behind when stopped to turn or stopped at a traffic light. The Mini was totalled in 1998 by a woman who ran a stop sign. I reshelled it with a 1998 shell, with rollup windows and the more modern doors. I don't want to have to do that again, since it took me a year to complete. I'm too fond of the car to sell it. The Victor has been hit twice from behind, both times requiring extensive repair and both times resulting in injuries to me.
There are sure lots of the BMW "New Minis" in my area. there's at least one in half the blocks surrounding the one I live on. As time passes, I tend to find them charming among the bigger stuff most people drive. I certainly didn't like them when they first appeared, but I'm getting used to them now.
Anybody else here with Mini content to post?

The police do very little to enforce homosexual activity here. I have at least a chance of avoiding disease when I wear a rubber. My sexual preference is to take it from behind. There are sure lots of gay men in my area. As time passes, I tend to find them and have sex with all of them. I certainly didn't like them when they first appeared, but I'm getting used to them now.

Us British classic Mini owners dislike the BINI (as it's known) for the most part. Not specifically the car, which looks fine other than being too big. No, it's BMW's attitude. They buy out a trade mark them stamp all over everybody that attempt to use it. They have made long established specialist firms change their names and closed down numerous websites. They even closed down a woman who was making cuddly furry models of the cars, for God's sake!
>Anybody else here with Mini content to post? > >-Wee Rocket And unfortunately there are still a few dickheads who attempt to impersonate legitimate posters, making them difficult to killfile. Unfortunately I deleted the crap copy post there so I lost the details to pass on to abuse@prodigy.net (not WeeRocket's ISP you'll note!). The x-posts are a giveaway; set follow-ups "only to group" will control it a bit.
Anyway, yes there are still a few of us trying to reclaim the group.
Over here in the UK we're suffering the wettest June on record; around two inches of rain today alone, and it's been like this for about two weeks. Floods everywhere. And we all know Minis and rain don't mix! My 67 Elf came home on a recovery truck on Friday after the coil failed - diagnosed it by the roadside with only two screwdrivers as tools! A 10-minute fix once I got home and got a spare coil from the shed.
hey, I've got an idea! Real Mini-related question coming up... (next post)

BMW didn't try that crap in the USA, but they did make one Canadian Mini club change its name. They also persecuted Nick Rogers in Sheffield and make him stop calling his business "Minibitz." I wish somebody had faced them down in court, since the term "Mini" was around long before the Austin or Morris Minis and the name, "Mini" was originally appended to the cars by enthusiasts, not the factory.

I originally created this newsgroup on December 5th, 1995, if I'm remembering correctly. Sometimes I get dates wrong, but I'll be 70 next month, so that's expected.

I'm a guitarist of sorts, not a terribly good one, but my youngest daughter is learning keys and my eldest is the singer in an up & coming metal band (think Evanescence and you'll not be too far out) - she may be famous one day! The Mini connection here is that she's claimed my '78 car to learn to drive in - she has taste!
