Howdy
i have 2 mini engines, a 998cc (99H791PZ522581) and a 1275cc unit
(12H706AA33121) from a GT.  I want to recon the 1275 gearbox for the
engine rebuild and am about to strip and rebuild.  My question is
this, can I interchange parts from either gearbox if necessary for the
rebuild or are they incompatible.  This applies to things like the
housing etc, bearings and wearing parts will be renewed  I realise
that the 1275 unit will have a close ratio box and the 998 won't.

Also on a secondary note can anyone identify the age of either of the
engines from the numbers, are they both A series engines.

Will I have to use a gasket between the gearbox and the engine?

Thanks
Leon

The 1275 GT is a close ratio gear box as you stated.
Most 1275 ie Metro etc gear boxes are the same ratio as a 998 mini exept for
the diff, but the 1275 GT and the 'S' had close ratio gear sets.

Every thing else should be interchangeable.

I think the later 1275GT's reverted to standard ratios.

The other items worth swapping, along with the diff, are the speedo drive
gears. This will make sure the speedo reads correctly.
