What is the brake switch on the dash for? Mine has never done  anything,
(Just thought - I didnt check the bulb in the switch).

Anyway can I remove it and put the foglight switch where it was?

My brakes were checked on the MOT 2 weeks ago are in perfect working order.

The brake light on the switch lights up only when the brake fluid is low and
stays on.

The switch is there to test the light is working and the bulb is O.K

Removing it depends if it's needed for the MOT or not.
Most fog light switches mount on the lower dash rail near the steering
coloum.

Interesting question this,i agree with what was said it is defiantely just
for testing the brake fluid, light will stay on if its low and basically the
switch itself is just for testing the bulb........but you have come up with
a great idea of rewiring it for the fog light switch,i would be interested
to hear if anyone knows if there some legal requirement for having this
brake test light i would seriosly doubt its needed by law...........i can
feel a rewiring project coming on this weekend!

Instead of ditching the bulb test - build a small circuit that powers the
bulb when switching on the ignition. Just like some modern cars.

Hi Michael (da liest ja noch einer mit),

[replacing the brake fluid test switch with a foglamp switch]

Actually - would a testing circuit for brake fluid be required by
either MoT or the somewhat more strict equivalent over here? I wouldn't
think so actually, as a number of more modern cars don't really check
brake fluid levels at all ...

If one wants to retain the original switchboard, I've also thought
about putting an older Lucas-type switch directly in the dashboard,
together with a small yellow LED - but I'm unsure if MoT or TüV would
approve :(

Anyway, the ugly plastic thingy at the steering wheel will have to go! :))

 see ya,

The wires on the fog switch are are long enough to re-route to the location
of the brake warning switch (I have moved it).

If it is not required for the MOT I will bin it otherwise as I am going to
fit a new dash I will put a warning light on the dash and somehow wire it in
with the ignition.

(I tested the thing and the bulb had blown).

Cheers

Peter
