Is it possible and how difficult would it be, to fit a 1.4i 16v rover metro
engine and gearbox into a Mini Mayfair 998 1991 model?

cheers

It's extremely difficult. The K-series engine is too high and too long to
fit inside a Mini. That's why you never see any of these. The Honda VTEC and
Opel/Vauxhall 16V engines are much easier to fit and have readily available
kits to do the job. They are still both major conversions. Not something to
attempt without knowing what you're doing.

The easiest is to get a 1275 or 998 A-Series engine from a Mini or a Metro.
That's basically plug'n'play, except for a couple of details that you should
be able to find through google. The Honda or Vauxhall conversion kits are
pricey, require a lot of technical knowledge and are expensive.

hiya
actually its not that difficult you just need a bit of lateral thinking,
You will need to convert the front end to coil over suspension and dampers
then cut away the towers that house the rubber trumpets and re-inforce to
make more room in the bay, then u got all the usual problems like
driveshafts and exhaust to mod.
