I've got a 97 mini cooper.

Is it possible to change the diff without removing the engine & box?

Even if it is, removing the motor and box from a Mini is not a difficult
job and surely has to be easier than doing surgery on a gearox whilst
flat on your back under the car?

Unfortunately I don't have a hoist.  Also my wife has only enjoyed her mini
for three days and I'm deperate for her to get back driving it as she has
not yet bonded with the car.
