ok hello everyone, it is a posability that i might be getting my hands on a
turbo set up
just wondering what, i need to do to fit it, i know modify the firewall
(bulkhead to all you poms), but mechanically lower the compression, run an
oil feed, a high volume oil pump, idealy a better suited cam.............

i'm sure there are quite a few things i have missed,
my questions are
1. what is the best way to lowewr the compression
2. where do you take the oil feed for the turbo from
3. what have i missed and how do i do it
4. what is the best way to go with exhaust, modified head, cam or other mods
etc for later
down the track for a bit of a power up .

cheers steve

You could enlarge the combustion chambers to reduce the compression. I'm
sure someone else has a better idea though. This would also mean that you
have made the first step on a modified head. You might be better buying a
modified head from some one like Avonbar though, I doubt a normal modyfied
head would do the business..

You have missed some way of keeping the heat down, I'm not sure what the
Turbo guys use but I would be thinking of plenty of thermal wrap around the
exhaust manifold, an oil cooler, maybe some bonnet vents or something.

If you fancy ordering stuff from the UK have a look at
http://www.speedgenie.co.uk/avonbar/index.html   They are the guys to talk
to for turbo mini stuff around here.

Sure not, because this is the best way to modify the compression.

Doubleright ;-)

No but if he brings the head to someone who is able to do the job it
should not be that expensive. And for sure, he receives the compression
he deserves ;)

Best way is to fit a proper set dished pistons, then go for a decent head.
The pistons are aggro to fit compared to a head, if you fit the head 1st you
may still have to end up fitting the pistons to get the required comp ratio.
Plus if you get it bored to 1293 or 1310 then you know you will get X amount
of miles out of it, rather than ??? miles from a used set.

Oil feed comes from a T-piece that you fit to the oil pressure switch. Fit a
high flow oil pump too

Best thing to do is get hold of a complete metro turbo engine/car, you will
then have all the manifolds, ecu, carb etc

keep a std MG metro cam in it, 1.5 roller rockers, oil cooler, 4-core rad +
72C thermostat, centre main strap, centre pickup pipe, X-pin diff!
Dave vizards book goes through the basics of de-restricting the mg metro
turbo, though you'd need a good gearbox!
