I have bought a second hand set of disc brakes (including the hub, flange
and driveshaft) for my drum-braked Mini.

The discs look OK, but what is the minimum thickness for the 8.4" disc?

No manual states this.

They are 9.6 mm now.

Thanks,

John

hi
i couldnt tell you the correct thickness but if there is a pornounced lip
on the outer edge or if they are severly scored i would change them, they
aren't that expensive.

hi been looking in my books and i cant find the right thinkness, but if you
are at all unsure then get two new disks they are not that expensive and
would make the system run a lot better. I wouls also replace the rubber
hoses to the system two

I have just replaced the discs on my mini,
the old discs measured 9.3 but where beginning to send a slight pulse
through the pedal,
Good advice from other posts, change the discs,
Fitzy

'pornounced'???

But seriously, the edge of a new disc states min. thickness of 8.6mm.

9.6 mm is the original disc thickness. Most discs have a minimum
thickness stamped on the edge of the disc.

Cheers,

Kelley

John

Just replaced the discs on my '84 Mini 25 - new discs were 9mm thick (should
be 8.5mm min).

My old ones were down to 4mm !!  (reckon previous owner must have had them
skimmed, cause can't see that they would "wear" that much, even with 89,000
miles on the clock.
