Don't think the spring will fit neatly in place. Its usual for me to
weld up the hole and re drill it.

If you're talking about the external spring between the lever and the
clutch cover, it's only there to prevent the lever preloading the
release bearing against the clutch. It's not under very much load and
it's nothing very special.
