Wheel nuts for sportspack alloys

I was looking for a set of wheel nuts for my sportspack alloy wheels. I am
not keen on the standard nuts as they have covers that are a real pain to
remove. Where could I get chrome nuts to suit; are they the same as those
for any other type of mini alloy wheels?

The 'covers' on the nuts are not meant to be removed!!! You should be using
an 11/16" single hex socket (not 12 point) over the stainless steel cap.
There are no alternative nuts available to my knowledge.

I guess you have the standard Rover wheelnuts which look like fake alloy
wheelnuts.  Actually the tin covers aren't supposed to come off as you need
to be careful removing them and it's best to use a good spider/wheel brace
as the standard one supplied is hopeless.  If you use a socket set you'll
end up rounding the tin covers as they're not very good and you need to tell
any garages or tyre fitters to be careful too.

I don't know of any proper alloy wheelnuts that can be used with Rover alloy
wheels as wheels like Minilite or Superlite are supplied with the correct
wheelnuts suitable for them.

I could be wrong though but I've not had any luck with wheel nuts for my
standard Rover alloys.

You're not supposed to remove the covers on the nuts. You leave them
on and use an 11/16 socket. (Which you should carry with you, and
offer to tyre fitters, etc, who will otherwise probably attack your
nuts with the wrong size socket and round them off - very painful!
;-)

It's OK, we all feel like a bit of a ninny at some point when working on a
mini and it does something it shouldn't ;)

Don't worry my friend. You are not the first and, no doubt, not the last to
think those awful wheel nuts are fitted with removable caps. They have to
one of the worst designs ever.

Yes and don't buy replacements from Rover as they charge you silly money.
Any good Mini specialist will charge around ?1.50 each or less if you buy
them in bulk.

Yeah, I thought the same!  But be very careful if anybody tries to
sell you anything different for those wheels.  I had a set of those
wheel nuts that had been mangled by mechanics over the years so I
phoned one of the BIG mini parts places, explained what wheels I had
but that I didn't want the original type nuts.

They arrived and I was happily fitting them to my car when my
neighbour popped round and noticed that the new ones were much
narrower than the originals and were barely gripping the wheel, in
fact only by the corners of each nut!  That really could have caused a
nasty accident!

Now that I have recovered from suicidal feelings maybe one of the mini
specialists can have a batch of proper nuts made up to suit.

Steve, give one of you procurement chummies at Lotus Eng. a call.
