Hey Everybody,

Does anyone have any tips for cold-weather proofing my mini, Norris.

As per common sense, I have added some antifreeze to the cooling system.
Is it ok to spray wd40 (sparingly) around the electrical contacts under the
bonnet, and if so should the car be running or not?

Does anyone have any other ideas or tips?

All the best,
Karen

I liked to change all the plugs points, etc for the cold morning starts,
make sure the battery is good to  I used to charge it over night every 3
weeks during the winter agian for cold morning startng . Also spray WD40 in
all the door/fuel cap locks I stops them frezzering as bad.

Hi Karen

Do not use WD40 on the electrics. It will cause a build up of muck leading
to corrosion. WD40 is only meant for emergency water dispersal. You are then
meant to clean it all off as soon a possible afterwards.

It is best if all electrical connections are simply clean, dry and free of
corrosion. These include battery terminals, battery earth cable connection
in the boot, engine earth strap, ignition leads and ignition coil
connections.  If these connections are dirty then the dirt can hold moisture
affecting the contact.  The battery terminals may have been covered with
petroleum jelly - that's OK.

Make sure the plugs and points are in good condition with the correct gaps.

You've done the antifreeze but don't forget the screenwash.

Probably a good time to check the fog light still works.

If any of the tyres are getting v.low on tread think about replacing them.
Worn tyres and wet/snowy roads are not a good combination.

HTH,
Shaun.

Thanks to Shaun and all the other posters.

Hopefully I've now done all I can.
Bring on the snow!

Karen
