Hi,
Know the feeling. I've got a permanent dent in the back of my neck!!

Mokes have the opposite problem.
Never EVER leave the bonnet of a Moke in any state except either UP or
DOWN AND TIED DOWN.
Sooner or later every Moke owner forgets and leaves the bonnet down but
not tied down. Thats why every Moke bonnet has 5 neatly spaced little
dents where the bonnet slams into the lift-the-dots which secure the
roof to the windscreen.
Apparently you get just a split second to realise your mistake as the
bonnet flies open.
Yes, I owned a Moke.
Yes, I say apparently.
I was doing 80kph when I did it, but I had my spare tyre on the bonnet,
so it didn't lift...

Lucky your hinge blocks were not worn, I've heard of Moke bonnets leaving
the car and being run over by the car behind!
Dean.

Those hinge blocks are also on Mini's to hold the bonnet stay in it's
place while "packed away". Everytime I open the bonnet on my car the
damn stays fallen out of the block, so I hate to think what it would
be like to attach the bonnet with them!!!

My first saloon did that in a brand new spray job because of a missing
bonnet hook. When it came off the catch there was nothing to stop it
bending around my windscreen.

That's the reason I replaced my hinges with bonnet pins. It's hard to smack
your head on the bonnet catch when it's standing against the wall next to
you!

But there are times with a Mini when you feel like smacking your head
against the wall!
