Hello all,
I have an 82 mayfair that i hope to fit with metro brakes.
The car has 10" wheels. I know ye olde cooper s brakes will fit but I
don't want the expense really and was wondering if this means that I
have to sacrafice my 10" wheels???
Also wondering: if I do fit metro brakes can I just swap out
everything between the suspension upper and lower arms and hook up to
fluid supply or is it less simple than this?
Thanks!
Tony

There are only two ways of retaining 10" wheels with disks.
1. Fit 'S' disk setup.
2. Fit 4 pot alloy calipers from a specilist company such as KAD
You may be advised that some steel weller wheels will fit over the 8.4"
setup, but I suggest you try before you buy.
Machining metro brakes to fit under the 10" setup is possible but very
dangerous. My life is worth more than ?200 - ?300 so I opted for the 'S'
setup.
If you want to fit 12" wheels with the vented metro setup you will need:
Hub from a disk braked mini (Not metro it destroys the suspention geometry)
Calipers and disks from a metro
Drive flange from a metro (You may need to grind off the lugs depending on
wheel choice)
Bolts from a ERA turbo (see your Rover dealer)

Metro brakes will not fit under 10" wheels. You will need to use 12" .

Simple answer no!! . For simplicity get a set of disc brakes from a post 84
Mini, they will fit straight on. Metro geometry is different to a mini. if
you fit metro hubs to standard Mini arms you will destroy the handling. 12"
wheels will still be needed.

ive fitted metro turbo discs to mine (with mini hubs though)
* you also need to fit a two way splitter to make the single brake line into
a double to fit to the 4pot calipers

There is no point fitting a servo to an 8.4 inch disc mini setup. I can
skid my Yokos fine without. All it does is change the feel of the pedal.
What next? Power steering?

I found it to be a great help on my system, but i think the drums were
getting a bit worn down to. So that might be it
