Mini restoration in Ireland.

I have just bought a 1976 Leyland Mini 850 that needs engine work
(and conversion to unleaded fuel), replacement of a number of body
panels (rust) and a re-spray.

My problem is that I want to have the work done by an experienced
Mini specialist rather than a general garage. But despite lots of
searching I can't locate such a person in Ireland.

After a series of unanswered emails to Irish club sites and attempts
to contact named people listed on them I've only had 1 reply. A very
nice man who went down this road himself some years ago. He had the
skills to do It himself, I don't.

If anyone in the group could post details of an Irish restorer I
would be very grateful. In the event that there isn't someone in
Ireland who does this work I am willing to travel to the UK,
preferably Wales (distance) to get a 1st class job done.

Thanking you in advance,

Joe.

Joe,
There's a guy in Cork who does engine conversions etc. I imagine he'd
do resoration work too... I know he's familiar with preping rally cars
etc too.

His name is Gerard o'Leary and he's in Cork.
you should be able to find him in the phone book...

Tony,

Thanks for the info. I'll try to track down Mr. O'Leary and hopefuly
he can help me get my new pride and joy back to her mint condition.

Tony,

Once again my thanks. I've had a chat with Mr. O'Leary about my
little beast. Based on my description he is unsure as to whether it
would be more expensive than the car would be worth to restored it,
but I'll be dropping down to Ballincollig some day next week for a
serious assessment of the options. Any excuse to visit Cork is always
good.

I'll let you know how it goes,

Joe.

Good stuff Joe,

you should sign up to the Irish mini owner's club message board too as
there are frequently people selling bits & pieces. I bought a set of 5
10*6" cosmic alloys from a guy just yesterday evening for 50
yoyos.....

They don't force club membership either so it won't cost you a bean!
