I have a mini that needs restoring, I did not anticipate the work required &
have since bought another. I have no space for all these mini's I keep
buying and so would like someone to save the project mini!!! There is a lot
of rust on the shell - it needs replacing really, the radius arms have
siezed up and so need replacing and the rear sub frame needs replacing.
The spec is as follows and I can provide picures if necessary.
.
Austin Mini Mayfair Automatic 1983
2 Door Saloon
(Silver) Blue
Chrome grill, bumpers, wing mirrors, window wipers, water jets, plugs, boot
handle
MOT expired beginning of October
No Tax
Needs someone to restore him to his full glory!
Fun project car
West Midlands
?200 o.n.o.

Please feel free to email with any questions or picture requests.

Hope to hear from someone soon!

Thanks

So the shell and subframes need replacing.  What you have is an engine and
log book ;)

We don't know much about cars but maybe yeah, apparently it's only the rear
subframe that has a problem ?

do you think it's worth much ? We just want someone to restore it really
instead of scrapping it.

The engine & rest of the mechanics are fine & the crome bits on it cost a
fair bit too.

we were conned a bit when we bought it, so looked into it a lot more before
we bought a new one.

worto.

It is unlikely that a car in the condition you have described is worth
anything.  It may be that your best bet is offering it as a project to
collect on ebay ?1 no reserve.  If you want the best money for it and it has
a few trick bits, make sure that you point out exactly what it has got -
however, I don't think you will get what the bits are worth as a whole car.
Have you thought about transferring the bits to the new one and then getting
rid of it - if the bits are worth it.  What has it got?  I may give you some
money for some of the bits if they are what I am after for the project I am
doing at the minute.

It may be that your best way of recovering some cash is to put the nice bits
individually on ebay and the rest of the car up ?1 no reserve - to be
trailered away.

Have a look at the prices that things are going for - not what they are up
at as a starting price and see what you think your options.  Why not list
what is with it here so we can see what is your best option.  It does sound
like the car has had its day - sorry.

But new shells are available for this year car, so I think it could be
a nice project for someone :-)

I agree but who is this someone :-)

If you know anyone the price is dropping by the day. we really need the
space it is taking up now.

Thanks, Steve.

... if you want to spend a lot of money on a car that wont be worth that
ammount.  You are looking at several thousand pounds to do this kind of
rebuild.  Someone may think it is worth it to build the car that they want
but most people are only prepared to spend this sort of cash on something
like a Mk1 or 2 or a pickup or van.  It costs over 2 grand just for the
shell!!

we tried to give it away for free in the pub last night but the guy couldn't
do anything with an auto in the end, oh well looks like we'll be paying to
scrap it now :-(

I think we're going to take all of the chrome bits off first if we can sell
those seperately we should make the money back for scrapping it.

Thanks for the help anyways,
Steve

Never pay anyone to remove scrap, you will always find someone that will
remove it for free, look in your local fee adds papers, take all the good
bits off it first, inc carb, starter, alt or dynamo, distributor, lights,
door handles etc, even the 10" wheels are going for arround ?10 these days
if they have a good tread, ( people use them on trailers, )

I certainly would have had it but im thinking just getting hold of a car
trailer etc and going up and down from Bedford to there is too much hassle
:-(

Paul,
Stop talking sh.t.... You once sold a mini for a tenner cos that's the
last amount of money you spent on petrol for it....

And do I need to mention the incident of rear-ending a tow truck that
didn't even notice???!!!! (luckily for you)

Love and hugs,

Your brother (the best looking one)

P.S. you coming home for christmas or what?

rid of it at the time.

True, the brakes on it were, lets say challenging.

What brakes has it got?  Take the front assemblies off and sell them.  What
chrome bits has it got?

Have you thought about using what you have left?  I didn't realise it was an
auto.  You have the makings of a trike.  All you need is to fashion a front
end onto the front subframe and get rid of the steering rack and lock the
wheels in place with a metal bar and away you go.  Point and squirt.  If it
is discs you would need to get a hydraulic system rigged up but it is all
pretty straight forward for the mechanically minded.  + it doesn't cost the
earth ;)  You could probably do it for about 500 quid...
