My car is running on 175/50/13s, but I want to use a standard 12 inch wheel
as a spare. Will this be OK and if so what tyre profile would be the best to
go for in terms of matching the 13s?

Cheers

If you do that you will need to make sure it goes on the back of the car or
you will steer into a tree.  Change it immediately - this is only a
temporary measure!!  Drive really slowly!!

Rover supplied a 145/70/12 as the spare with the Cooper Sports Packs
with 175/50/13 wheels.

Like the Muffin man said - the spare is only a temporary measure.

This is true for any car. There's good reason to enforce this too.
Ensuring that the original tyre goes back on once repaired means that
you will have consistent tyre wear on both sides of the car.

a 12inche running the standard size profile has the same rolling diameter as
a 13 on a 50 profile...so no problems,  but only use it as a spare and dont
run on it for to long.

Hi Makka,
IIRC, I think it was a 165/60/13, I'm sure I had these on a ford some years
ago

The advice given is basicaly the same,
treat the Wheel & Tyre as a space saver, and all space savers come with a
set of rules, follow the advice and you will be OK,
I am running Bridgstones on 13"s with a 12" minilight as a spare

tyres:

the van is on 160/60/13s and has had the rear end chopped with hi-los added
with the ride hight upped with no obvious detriment to handling.  I can
still do 60/80kmph through local/hiway roundabouts in cairns oz!

steve (rainy cairns finally!!!!)
