Hi All
A good friend of mine wants to import a few minis into Colombia.Seems he
had so much fun in ours when he was here!
Where should he look for them? The Uk or in OZ.
The advantage of OZ is that i can look at them  beforehand
Any other ideas as to where to buy or were to start and any shipping
info.
THANKS
STUART

In the UK you will be able to find more recent models than Australia
since our last Minis were built in 1978. Cars in the UK depreciate so
fast that a 10 year old UK Mini will be price competitive with a 25 year
old Aussie Mini, and will have disk brakes, 1275 motor, etc.

On the other hand, a 25 year old Aussie Clubman will probably have very
little rust compared to any Brit Mini.

Does he want something special, a CooperS, a round front or a clubman
front, an injected Mini? Has he considered a Moke?

No one here will have any shipping info for Sydney or UK to Columbia,
thats just too "odd".

Chances are that a 20' shipping contained will be cheaper than moving
the car as a car, in which case, you may as well ship two Minis and lots
of spares, since the second Mini won't cost any extra to ship. Of course
if you're shipping Mokes, you can probably get more like 4 into a 20'
contained with a little ingenuity....

The advantage of Oz is that it wont have been dunked in salt water for half
of the year.

Are they better off as old unloved cars approaching the end of their
service life in NZ or as much loved expensive restoration projects in
the US?

Well, I saved my grandmothers car from this fate, and it was by no means
unloved. I think all to often aging owners think that selling their cars to
these 'mini people' will keep the car alive. - to often their stripped and
wrecked with the shiny bits going on another car to be sold for a mint
overseas.

I've no qualms with people enjoying mini's - but selling them for stupidly
large amounts really bothers me.

Hey, when the time comes for me to part company with a vehicle, I'm
always looking for someone who wants to give me stupidly large amounts
of money!

I get the impression that the complete Mini market (as opposed to parts) is
easing up a little in the US now. We are still sending 20 percent of our
turnover to the US in parts though. Long may it continue, I say!

hiya
why look in uk or us ? mini's were in production in Venesuela for some time
and quite popular, although made from GRP which is no bad thing as they dont
rust.
