Yes. Cooper S from April 1966 onwards, and early automatics. These used
basically the same shafts as the rubber coupling cars. However, I believe
the S used a stronger shaft.

OK, this matches Aussie practice - Cooper S and all Minimatics. All our
Minimatics would be "early" by yours standards, since they gave them up
about 1970 here.

To answer your question, way too long.
If you remove the inner CV joint you can just get the hub and wheel back on,
but even then the driveshaft is hard up against the engine.
With the inner CV joint on, well you can't get the hub on full stop.
