That looks awful. There's certainly no way you'd ever get something like
that registered in Australia!

But it would fun fun hooning it around & sliding sideways around corners,
south coast NSW sounds like the place to do it.

Yeeeuck!! That is truly hideous. I am not a purist, but how anyone can think
that is a tasteful modification is beyond me! Now, anyone remember the Chevy
engined pickup done by GT Developments? Now that was nice!
Chevy V8 in the back, Hewland transaxle, double wishbone suspension....
mmmmm.

P.S. Just for a laugh...... my spell checker just interpreted 'transaxle' as
'transsexual' !!!

Wasn't it supposed to be a hillclimber but came way down the pack as it was
impossible to avoid the trees with it?

That's the one. I think it was stuffed big time in the end. The way I
understand it GTD (who produced lovely GT40 replicas) decided to have a
little fun with a 'spare engine
and box' one day.

It is a great idea as a novelty but totally useless for handling.  You end
up with a Beetle ;)

A beetle is not a mini but it is quite fun to drive.

My point was that a rear wheel drive pickup with a V8 engine in the back
goes like stink and goes round corners like a fish on roller-skates.  Much
like a Beetle with a Porsche engine in it.  Odd that we only have Mini vs.
Beetle drag races and not Mini vs. Beetle track days or rally's.......

;)

The Beetle was actually banned from the Mobilgas Rally in Australia
becuase it was too good ;-)

I borrowed a 1302 Beetle for a week and was glad to give it back. It was
loathesome! Now this is from someone who will drive anything for the fun of
it. But a Beetle..... never again!

Ah, but this was actually mid engined, not rear engined. Like a Ferrari or,
for that matter, a Ford GT40!
