Fitzy - 11 Dec 2003 11:18 GMT Hi All I am having lots of bad connection problems in the fusebox on a Rover Mini Sidewalk 1995, its not blowing fuses, it constantly needs the fuses cleaning, I have removed the fusebox and all the fuses, cleaned all the terminals, lubricated with WD40 and refitted back on the car, it works ok for a day or two and then something goes off, ,I slide the fuse in and out a couple of times and the circuit comes back from the dead,, ? Any suggestions for a cure, or a replacement fusebox, TIA Fitzy
Rocky - 11 Dec 2003 13:25 GMT I had the same prob, the fuse boxis in a bad place i move the box inside the car, stops all the water/crap getting to it.

If it is the 4 way fuse box under the bonnet, replace it. It sounds like it will solve all your problems. These items only need a tiny bit of corrosion on the back and they can cause all sorts of strange faults.
But don't buy it from a Lucas or Rover dealer. You will need a second mortgage!

I don't know if Steve sells fuse boxes or not (I haven't looked!), but if he doesn't, I came accross a company at http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk when I was looking to buy some crimp terminals, and they sell 4-way fuse boxes for ?2.33 + P&P (?3.75). That seemed pretty cheap to me (although I haven't looked elsewhere), but you won't need a second mortgage for one! :-)
Ben.

We only carry the original Lucas ones for glass fuses. However, you could fit a blade fuse type if it has enough terminals. It needs more than one terminal per fuse because the loom uses the fuse box as a junction box too. And you may need to drill different mounting holes.

And you may need to drill different mounting holes. Ah, I hadn't thought about the "more than one terminal" thing. In that case (I'm asking because I'd like to replace the fusebox on my mini also, sometime soon), I think I'm right in remembering that there are two terminals for each side of the fuse connection, aren't there? If this is the case, would it be possible to replace a mini 4-fuse box (double terminal) with an 8-fuse box (single terminal), assuming it was then wired in correctly so that each single fuse was then replaced with two fuses?
Ben.

No. The problem is that some of the terminals are just used as a junction between two wires. You could always fit those piggy back type spade terminals to give the same effect, but they aren't very nice.

Fitzy - 16 Dec 2003 18:04 GMT This is what I have started doing,,,,, as the fuse becomes inoperable, I chop the wires out from under the fuse box,, and fit the inline spade type fuse link eventualy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I will have a new fuse box :-) Fitzy

Fitzy - 15 Dec 2003 17:16 GMT Thanks Steve & Ben, unfortunately its not the 4 way fuse box, its the later Rover system with about 20 blade type fuses, some how the terminals have lost there protective coating, since they have been cleaned,, now the "Domino" syndrome is happening, jiggle the headlight fuse and the rear fog is disturbed, jiggle the fog fuse and the fuel pump stops, and so on, and so on, Fitzy

It is so heartwarming to find that Mini tradition is upheld on the later cars..... all the same problems, just in a different position!
