Brakes and Dampers

My sisters 93 Open Classic Mini did on odd thing yesterday whilst my nephew
was travelling down a welsh mountain.  Well he pressed the brakes but the
pedal was solid but then freed up thankfully.  My sister was afraid to drive
it but on inspection the rear drums needed adjusting and now it seems fine.
Any suggestions why the pedal should have seized up?  Also there's a
banging/knocking coming from the n/s rear suspension when going over bumps,
I think it's time it got new dampers as whilst I was adjusting the rear
brakes it didn't take much effort to lift the n/s rear wheel compared to the
o/s rear.

Any advice appreciated.

cheers,

Taffy

Hi Taff,
I would start by checking the servo pipe between the manifold and servo
unit,
it might have been sucked flat on over-run and caused the feeling of solid
pedal and no brakes,

I think you have answered the shocky question yourself,

the dampers thing is more likely to be due to seized (or seizing) radius arm
pins, when dampers fail (rare?) its nearly always the seals and you usually
see the fluid all over them.
since time began, mini's have always had problems with radius arm pins.

grease them every 3000 and they last for ever....
