Hi good people, the story goes, i,ve just fitted a 1426cc stroker motor in
my clubman, omega flat top pistons, seriously big head, 648 cam, 45mm weber,
running on avgas, i went through vizard's book & fitted the biggest main
jets i had 165's, it starts & runs but i have'nt driven it yet, as the car
is used in club motorsport such as motorkhana's (or autocrosses in the
UK???) & khanacrosses. I need it to be very throttle responsive, has anybody
had experiences with a similar set up? any advice would be good before i
start shelling out bickies for new jets.

Happy new year from Australia.

Can't wait to see that thing fly!

HI I'm currently running a 1450cc mini with a 45 Webber and have been for
the past 12 years it's just been set up after a carb rebuild and it's
putting out 110bhp with 124 ft/lbs of torque, the head is a 36/32 stage 5
VMax, cam is a Kent MD286 (2000/7500rpm), 5speed JK straight cut box with a
3.44 diff and it pulls like a train with a top speed of around 125 -130
mph.. Great fun and has been putting a smile on my face for years...
I'll have a look for the jet numbers for you and post them later..

Karl.

And Elvis was sitting next to Karl in the spaceship, which I thought was
kinda weird, but then they turned to me and said:

So that would be, what, 74mm bore with an 84mm ground crank.

Most impressed that you've managed to get a bored & stroked motor to last
for 12 years. Fragile buggers in my experience. I've always reckoned
you're doing pretty well to get 12 *months* out of one.

Well it could be down to me only using it for weekend and summers and it has
tried to push the transfer gears out of the casing twice but I guess with
all the torque it's not that surprising. but apart from the small stuff it's
bullet proof. 74mm Bore and 84.5mm Stroke. the engine was built back in 1990
and is still on the same bore/block and crank, the bearings are fine but
it's on it's second head because I decided to go lead-free with a stage 5
VMax 36/32 and a set of straightcut JK drop gears.

I've seen a couple of 74mm bored engines cracked between 3 & 4 cylinders,
and a few more wrecked or seized through the bores warping.

My experience is mainly with cars used for hillclimb events, which I
guess carries more risk of overheating than most other forms of
motorsport.

Ok I've just had the jets out and here's the numbers.
Air Corrector = 175
Emulsion Tube = F9
Main Jet = 165
Idle Jet = 50F9
I hope this helps you on your setup.

Karl.
P.s. The car is very drivable at present but I'm going to put it onto EFI in
the next few months so I can control the Ignition advance much better at
idle.(Aldon dizzy is locked on full advance at the moment)
