Hi

I have a 1990 Mini Cooper S, and I am off away for a few months (about 3), I
am going to store my car in the garage, before I do has anyone got any
suggestions or tips to preperation of the car as its not going to be used
for so long. The car is running fine at the moment and would like to keep it
thant way if possible.

Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan

I had my mini stored for around 10 years on and off and all I did to it
everytime was put it up on axel stands, disconnect the battery, pop the
radiator cap ( winter only but not needed if you have plenty of
antifreeze ), leave the brakes OFF and open the windows a fraction for air
circulation.
It was only after 5 years did the mice find a home in the webber bulkhead
box and eat all my silicone ignition leads those hungry little sh.ts.
So you should have no probs just parking it (Breaks OFF), disconnecting the
battery and all should be fine on your return.

Karl.
P.s. A little spray of WD40 on and around the engine, Alloys and chrome
wouldn't go a miss.

Thnaks for the reply Karl,

This may sound like a silly question but what advantage does putting the car
on axel stands have ??

It can save the tires becoming deformed from being sat in the one position
as it can ruin the sidewalls and cause vibration.
But for your 3 month storage it won't be a problem I would only recommend it
for long storage times.

Or inflate the tyres to 40psi. But don't forget to deflate them again before
you use the car!
