How much should insurance for a 998 mini be? How about a 1.3 cooper?
Approximately?
I am trying to find some decent insurance in the UK, but am getting severely
anally copulated by a series of insurance companies - the lowest quote I
have found so far is ?1200 for a simple 1988 Mini City 998. That can't be
right - that is more than the car itself is worth!
How much of a difference does an UK licence make? I have a Norwegian licence
at the moment (I "officially" live in Norway, as I am a student, and for
grant / tax reasons i have to "live" in Norway for now)

The best I found is Adrian Flux Insurance (08700777120) they do a special
mini scheme. They even negotiate the cars value with you, you have to send
them a few pictures but they were fair enough with me.
I am a student with a few years now claims and on a '90 1275 Cooper S, which
they say is a Group 8, I pay about ?450 per year, which was about ?100 less
than any of the 'big' insurance companies.
Hope this helps

Ah, the advantages of age....... !
I always find it frightening what younger drivers have to pay for insurance
these days. I was close to buying a Lotus Europa when I was still only 17.
Mention the words Lotus and '17 years old' to an insurance company now and
they would fall about laughing!
As Daniel says, Adrian Flux is about as good as you get for so called 'high
risk' insurance.

Try Direct Line they don't seem to care if you have a NON UK license as my
wife found out being Canadian...

What pisses me off more than anything is that I am 22, and I have had a
driver's permit since I was 15, and a licence since I was 16 (lived in the
US). If only all those other little people wouldn't be so horribly
annoyingly reckless when driving.
Anywho. Thanks for the tips, I'll just have to keep searching,.

i know what you mean, i lived in the UK for 2 1/2 years, i hold a full New
Zeland license, and have since I was 15, at the time I had beend riving with
no accidents for 22 years. I held a letter from my NZ insurance company
stating I had full no claims, never had a demerit etc etc...but they wanted
to charge me 700 pounds a year for a Rover Cooper LE Sport, and that was on
a restricted mileage policy. Their reason was because I also had a Nissan
Micra, and they gave me full no claims on that at 350pounds...work this out,
who had the no claims Me or the Cars? And can I drive both cars at the same
time..I dont think so, Ive said it before in this NG, and I'll keep on
harping on about it in the UK your insurance companies are ripping you off!
Here in NZ, I have my Rover Cooper, my 66 Cooper S, my 64 Cooper S, the Mini
Jem GT Race car (road registered) a 1981 Modified Mini "Hotrod", a 1996
Landrover Discovery V8, a 1967 Mini 850 and my tractor and my total
insurance comes to $1000.00NZD approx...thats about 330 pounds. In NZ my
insurance company realises I'm a collector and can not possibly drive all
the cars at the same time, and it is ME and not the cars who have a clean
driving and insurance record.
Tim
GRRRRR I hate UK insurance companies & whilst we are at it the Banking
system needs a good kick in the arse as well!!!!!!!

Mr. Dobson,
Please tell me that your policy is restricted to 3 miles a week on dry days
at <30 mph.
My '76 850 mini cost EUR800 (about ?550 stg or US$ 12 Kg.) to insure,
unrestricted.
Although I had been driving ~30K miles per year in a company car I was told
it wasn't relevant for insurance purposes as it wasn't in my own name. To be
fair there was also an issue about an Avensis and a trailer loaded with
straw that resulted in a non-standard silhouette for the Avensis. But that
was more than 2 years ago and is the only blotch in 20+ years driving.
In the main I'm a peaceful sort of a man and I don't waste my time hating
people. For Insurance company bosses I make an exception. I have this little
dream every so often that features all the CEOs and MDs outside my window.
Did I mention all the lamp-posts outside my window?
Rant over; thanks for listening.
Regards,
Mens sana.

Shockingly enough, insuring my girlfriend on the car, with me as a second
driver, is about 500 quid cheaper. I guess that will be the way forward...
I can't stand insurance companies.

Take a look at www.toponlinequotes.co.uk if your trying to reduce your
premium.
It has some good tips on how to reduce premiuum costs. I saved quite a lot of
money this year and normally shop around anyway.
