I have a 1996 1.3i Mini and my exhaust back box has just blown ! Can anyone
recommend a replacement system preferably stainless steel and wider bore
than standard but not too pricey and loud! Will I need to replace the Cat as
part of the system? I haven't replaced an exhaust on this car so any tips or
recommended suppliers in North East UK would be appreciated.

Cheers

Andy

Most people recommend an RC40 exhaust or Playmini but Maniflow are good too.
You won't need to replace the cat, just order a system suitable for you year
of Mini and stress you need a cat link pipe.

As Taffy says, the RC40 range is excellent. Don't fit anything bigger that
1.75" bore. It is too big and will only reduce power. The tailpipe size is
not a problem, but it is best to keep the main pipe at 1.75". There are a
variety of options in the RC40 range (single or twin silencer, centre or
side exit, various tailpipe designs, etc)

We have found Play Mini and Maniflow can be quite noisy. If you keep your
cat in, a single box shouldn't be too noisy. If you remove the cat, do bear
in mind that you will still need to meet the MOT emission requirements.

Last year I had a stainless steel system supplied and fitted to my 1995
Sidewalk at a total cost of ?80, I thought this was good value,
2" system , side exit , everything from the cat,
They are based in Birkenhead, Merseyside,

Worth a phone call,
